Harlow MP Chris Vince highlights state of Princess Alexandra Hospital in House of Commons

News / Thu 24th Apr 2025 at 03:03pm

HARLOW MP Chris Vince rose on the floor of the House of Commons to highlight the state of the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.

In a debate led by the Liberal Democrats on the physical condition of hospitals, Mr Vince took the opportunity to shine a light on the physical state of the hospital.

Before discussing the state of the hospital, Mr Vince took the commons back to the he wa elected in July 2024.

He said: “When I was elected, I found a project without any funding, without a business plan and without even a site to build the new hospital on.

The idea that it would be built by 2030 was an absolute pipedream. The current Princess Alexandra site is too small. The corridors and wards are too small, the A&E department is crammed, and it is literally falling apart. We have seen sewage leaking into the wards and we saw the roof of the ICU falling down. Fortunately, nobody was injured. [Interruption.] My speech is so riveting that I have woken Jennie up, so I apologise for that.

“I support the Government’s amendment and pay tribute to the work already done by this Labour Government. Waiting times are down, and we finally have a realistic, achievable and fully funded timetable for a new Princess Alexandra hospital and at least £1.5 billion of investment in our town.

In the meanwhile, of course the Princess Alexandra hospital will need funding. I have met the chief exec a number of times and will meet him again next week to discuss the matter. I know that the Minister is already preparing herself for the lobbying she will get from me in the Tea Room next week”.

Sort out the parking too. 40 minutes it took me to get parked in hospital,

The parking is ridiculous at PAH. The whole site is not fit for purpose.

3 car parks for staff Take car park away for buildings Hardly any disabled parking No one wants to park at Wych Elm and walk so far especially if they struggle to walk. New hospital needs a car park like lister, a 5 level multi storey car park joined onto side of hospital, Get a grip of the issue now.

The waiting list is going to get lower, because people are being took of list, because you feel are less important, juggling the numbers again. People s appointments are being pushed back.. This labour party need to start talking the truth. Agree with others about the car park, it's a disgrace.

If Waiting lists are getting shorter its more likely because people can't see a gp to get a referral. And now GPs will be paid to not refer people. People are just being left to get more and more ill it's neglect and utterly shameful. The movement of additional people into the area needs to be blocked until the healthcare provision is sorted out.

He'll pop up every now and again and hope no one notices that Labour have kicked the can down the road on this. When Labour told us the new Harlow hospital will not be built now, it declared "Expected construction start date 2032-2034". However we have our next General Election no later than August the 15th 2029. No one expects Chris Vance to be in his mp job at the next election and Labour is very doubtfull. So for me, for our mp to raise it just for his own pr, knowing full well it's been kicked down the road is the usual failure of our current mp.

A new survey by health service union Unison finds "NHS staff levels ‘alarmingly low’ on wards". The survey of nurses, healthcare assistants, and midwives found that a staggering 69 per cent of shifts were understaffed, a marked increase from 63 per cent just two years ago. I fully agree with the Right honourable MP Christopher John Vince. We have a great need for a fully functional PAH.It is very disgraceful that you lot aren't supporting him.Perhaps,we could then get the funding we need. Come on guys, show your mettle.Stop having A pop at his honour(that is his title and with respect that is what you should be using).Be part of the solution. Let's give him some backing men. He is just emerging as a very sound guy. Lots of love to you all Adrienne.xx🥰🥰

Luke you have given me a couple of ideas.we could acquire the adjacent land to Pah1with underground carparks This would not interfere with Pah 1 Or alternatively build a new hospital with underground carparking on the grounds of the existing carparks then renovate Pah 1 afterwards.4
