VE Day 80: Drawing on Memories of WW11 in Harlow

History / Sat 3rd May 2025 at 04:39pm

HARLOW Sculpture Town is proud to launch ‘Drawing on Memories’, a new exhibition created to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Presented in partnership with Harlow Museum.

The exhibition explores how the war affected everyday life on the home front, through local newspaper articles, personal belongings, and the voices of Harlow residents. It reflects on VJ Day and the final chapter of the war in August 1945.

It also explores the lives and wartime experiences of 11 artists — including Edward Bawden, Dame Laura Knight, Henry Moore, and John Piper — who served as official War Artists, documenting life during WWII.

To commemorate VE Day (8 May), Harlow Council will be hosting special events in Playhouse Square, 3.30pm – 9.30pm.
