THE action on the all-weather continues at Chelmsford on Thursday with another competitive six-race card at the track.

The opening contest on the card sees nine runners head to the stalls for the class five maiden fillies’ stakes (6.20). Heaven Knows looks the way to go in the opener for trainer Rae guest, whose filly was unsuited to a drop down to five furlongs when last seen and has been beaten at short odds twice in her last two starts but this step back up to six furlongs should help right that wrong.
Race two of the evening (6.55) is another six furlong contest, this time a handicap in class five. The consistent Jesse Luc, trained by Mike Murphy, is a previous course and distance winner and was better than ever when scoring at Southwell three weeks ago so should be well in with a shout once again. Three-time course and distance scorer Muscika rates the next best, capable of finding a place here from his falling handicap mark.
Seven runners will take on the maiden stakes in class five over a mile and a quarter to mark race three and the midway point of the Chelmsford card on Thursday (7.25). The Roger Varian-trained Empress Of Ali is the only one in the field without any experience to draw upon but on paper, she looks a smart prospect despite the addition of a hood for her debut. Cayman Dancer, hailing from the Charlie Johnston yard, had a decent debut spin at Beverley a fortnight back when third and rates the main danger.
Lady Chartwell didn’t run her race at Newmarket’s Craven Meeting when finishing last of five in a handicap but is worth chancing to quickly get back to form having won over this course and distance in March as she lines up in race four (7.55) at Chelmsford. The Harry Eustace-trained Killenaule is the next best, a thrice-race maiden and was a good sixth at Newbury when last seen and is sent up in trip for his handicap debut.
The penultimate race of the evening at Chelmsford sees a field of five tackle the two-mile handicap in class five (8.25). Four-time course winner Carlton looks to be the way to go in this one, with two runs from four starts this year and despite a fourth last time out, should give a good account of himself back in this sphere.
Finally, the card comes to a close with a seven furlong handicap in class six (8.55) with preference in the finale heading the way of Ocean Odyssey, hailing from the Gary and Josh Moore yard, who won on debut for his new yard when landing an 11-runner handicap at Southwell eight days ago, and impressively at that. The four-year-old is taken to get the better of nearest rival Aspire To Glory, a winner at Newcastle in march and a good second on his last spin three weeks ago at Southwell.
