Walking Football: Harlow Ladies extend their league at the top of the table

HARLOW Town Pirates Walking Football teams played their second round of Essex Walking Football League fixtures in April and early May. As in the first round, the best performances were recorded by the two Women’s teams.

In the Women’s Premiership, Harlow extended their lead at the top of the table to 5 points and remain undefeated. They drew their first match 0-0 with Valley Green Diamonds, but then went on to win their remaining four matches, defeating Beacon Hill Rovers 3-1, Leyton Orient 2-1, Billericay Town Blue 1-0 and finally Romford Randoms Blue 4-0 to round off another fine day for the team.
In the Championship, Pirates got off to a fine start, winning their first three games against Romford Randoms Yellow 3-0, Billericay Town White 1-0 and Valley Green Emerald 1-0. They then slipped to their first defeat of the season against the league leaders Hawkwell Athletic by 0-1, before drawing 0-0 with Beacon Hill Rovers White, to finish the day in second place in the League, 4 points behind Hawkwell.
The Men’s Over 60s, playing in Division 1 followed up their first round of matches with another mixed day with a 1-1 draw with Chelmsford City Clarets, before a 0-2 defeat by Cheshunt. However, they fared better in their second encounter of the season with Beacon Hill Rovers, picking up a 2-2 draw after defeat in their previous meeting. The other results mean that Pirates have slipped to 8th of 10 teams.
The Men’s Over 65s in Division 2 improved greatly in their second round of matches. After drawing 1-1 with Leyton Orient White, they lost 1-2 against Chelmsford City Blue, but bounced back to defeat Concord Rangers Yellow 1-0 in their third game to move up the table from bottom at the start of the day, to 5th of 8 teams.
The Men’s Over 70s team playing in Division 1 had a day to forget in their three matches. Starting with a 0-3 defeat by Leyton Orient Red they improved to draw1-1 with Grays Athletic. But their final fixture saw them fall to another 0-3 defeat to Wakering. The results meant that they slipped to 7th in the table, just outside the relegation places.
