ST MARK’S student George Watkins produced quite a remarkable performance to run UK Age Best 10K at the AJ Bell Great Manchester 10K at the weekend.
George runs for Woodford Green and Essex Ladies (WGEL) and has been in fine form, even though this is quite early in the season.
A recent 1500 metre steeplechase win saw he was ready to make a splash at the 10K distance.

George ran a remarkable time of 31.49 to place 31st in a race full of top distance athletes.
For parkrun participants, he ran a 15.38 5k split followed by a 16.11.
It was clear that the diminutive Year 10 pupil was turning heads as he ran through the streets of Manchester.
George produced metronomic 1k splits between 3.08 and 3.11 before putting the burners on for the final kilometre split of 3.00.
As he crossed the line he fell, only to be picked up by guest of honour and Olympic 800 metre champion Keely Hodgkinson.
Well done George. His family, his coaching team at WGEL and St Mark’s school are very proud of you.
Fantastic achievement George! Well done & keep on running!!!
