Harlow Council come to the rescue of Northbrooks residents after raw sewage pours out into street

HARLOW Council came to the rescue after residents of a new build estate in Northbrooks endured raw sewage running in the streets.
A resident contacted YH on Friday night, extremely concerned at the sight and smell of the sewage in their street.
Some residents including children already had underlying health concerns.

According to residents, they had contacted the housing provider, Sanctuary Housing, but had been told that no-one was available until after the Bank Holiday (i,e: Tuesday).
There was an added problem in that this was what is called an unadopted road and so there was uncertainty as to whether the council could help.
But this is where the Harlow Council portfolio holder for the environment, cllr Nicky Purse came in.
Councillor Purse looked at the situation and assessed that there was a risk of raw sewage going back into the water system. Therefore, this was an emergency.
Once she obtained approval, an environment team from Harlow Council went down on Friday night and sorted it.
A resident, who did not wish to be named, thanked cllr Purse and her team for their swift work.
The Sanctuary Housing press team did get back to YH to topic base and confirm the situation had been sorted.
We will follow up in due course to make sure that any long term issues have been addressed.
It certainly highlights the Issue some will have been aware of since the building of Church Langley. Multiple developers all claiming it's other developers problems not their's or saying it's been adopted by the council when it hasn't and then add to that Landlords/social housing companies discharginging their own responsibilities whenever they feel like it. Something to make sure on any new plans by developers given the amount of new builds hitting Harlow and it's outlying areas.
Congratulations for doing your job.
Good work by Harlow Council and the portfolio holder Nicky Purse.
@Benni, as far as I'm aware (and please feel free to do your own research on this) Harlow Council are not responsible for sewage drains. That should all be down to the company that built the system for the new houses. Regardless if it's a bank holiday there should always be someone on call.
I'm afraid there will be a lot more of this. When you over load a town.
Certainly in this case it would appear Harlow Council stepped up when the responsibility was Sanctuary Housings. I hope Harlow Council will now bill Sanctuary housing or the message sent out to housing associations would be, dont worry Harlow council will do it for free.
Well done Harlow council.vredit where credit is due. A few kind words go a long way. Perhaps you could help with the pavements too. The highway department seems to have disappeared. Hello can you heat me highways department.
