A PROLIFIC shoplifter from Bishops Stortford has been issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), banning him from entering supermarkets across the town.

Rory Brytz, aged 33, was made subject of the order during a hearing at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court last month, thanks to joint working between the East Herts police Community Safety Unit (CSU) and local Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT).

It sets out several conditions that Brytz, of Atherton Close, must adhere to for the next five years:

• Abide by any banning notice which has been served in writing by any retailer (shop, store, shopping centre) since 6 March, 2025.

• Must not enter, for any reason, any shop owned, run or managed by Sainsbury’s, Tesco or Waitrose in Bishops Stortford.

Breaching the order is a criminal offence which could lead to a prison sentence.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Andy Crow said: “Shoplifting is not a victimless crime; it has a wide-reaching impact and we’re continuing to do all we can to bring offenders before the courts.

“Brytz is a prolific shoplifter who has been given numerous opportunities to turn his life around and we’re pleased this order has been put in place.

“If you believe you have witnessed the CBO being breached, please call 999 straight away.”

During the hearing, Brytz was also given a 26-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, having pleaded guilty to several offences, including multiple thefts from shops.

In 2019, Brytz was subject to a similar order in Harlow.
