GREATER Anglia has recently invested more than £1.5m in station enhancements. The train operator for the East of England has undertaken a project to paint 35 stations across its network to enhance the overall look and feel.

Stations including Ely, Colchester Town, Great Yarmouth, and Stansted Mountfitchet have all been repainted, as part of a project which has seen 4,000 litres of paint used across 35 stations.

Approximately 4,000 litres of paint were used to paint lamp columns, doors, and frames. Canopies were repainted at Diss, Ely Rochford, and Billericay.

Eight stations – Attleborough, Colchester Town, Felixstowe, Lowestoft, March, Roydon, Thetford and Wivenhoe – were repainted following £69,000 funding from The Railway Heritage Trust.

The paint project began in October 2024 and was completed in May 2025.

Andrew Goodrum, Infrastructure & Major Projects Director, Greater Anglia, said:

“The paint project makes stations look brighter and cleaner and feel more pleasant.

“We know our passengers care about the appearance of their local stations, and we are very pleased with the feedback from this project.

“We would also like to thank The Railway Heritage Trust for their generous support.”

Tim Hedley-Jones, Executive Director, The Railway Heritage Trust, said:

“We are pleased to support Greater Anglia with this work. Painting some stations in heritage colours adds character and interest to them and improves the overall journey experience.”

Broxbourne Station could do with an overhaul. Constant leaks, toilets breaking down etc.
