Reform UK support surges in East of England with party on course to form next government, election anniversary poll reveals

ON the one year anniversary of the Labour government, a new MRP poll from communications agency PLMR and Electoral Calculus reveals that Reform UK is on course to become the biggest party in the East of England and form a majority government at the next General Election.

The poll of over 5,000 British adults reveals that if a General Election were held tomorrow, Reform UK would win 35 out of 43 seats in the region.
Labour would be reduced to just two seats in Norwich South and Cambridge, the Conservatives would be left with just one seat in Epping Forest in Essex, and the Liberal Democrats would win five seats including three in Cambridgeshire and two more in Chelmsford and North Norfolk.
Harlow
Reform: 41%
Conservative: 23%
Labour: 20%
Green: 7%
Lib Dem: 7%
Nationally, Reform UK would secure 31% of the national vote, compared to 22% for Labour and 19% for the Conservatives. Based on constituency-level voting intention, this would result in a predicted 377 seats for Reform UK, up from just five secured in the last election.
Labour would fall from 412 to 118 seats, while the Conservatives are predicted to collapse to just 29 seats, trailing behind the Liberal Democrats on 69 seats.
This would see Nigel Farage become Prime Minister without the need for any parliamentary coalition or alliances. Even if all the other parties joined forces, they would not have enough seats to prevent Farage walking into Number Ten.
These findings mark an historic acceleration in the reshaping of Britain’s political landscape, with issue-based voter priorities breaking away from traditional party loyalties.
Economic insecurity remains the number one driving factor for voters in the East of England, with 52% of voters in the region citing the cost of living and the economy as the main issue driving their voting intention. This is closely followed by NHS waiting times (45%) and immigration (42%).
Among Reform UK voters specifically, the importance of addressing the economy and immigration concerns become even more stark, with 57% citing fears around the cost of living, and an overwhelming 83% citing immigration as the main issues driving their votes.
This highlights the need for Labour and the Conservatives to cut through on these issues in order to win back support from voters who want action on cost of living pressures and border control.
The sharp decline in vote share for both the Labour and Conservative parties also points to a profound realignment of voters, and the growing appeal of Reform UK’s message among economically left-leaning, but culturally conservative voters.
Reform UK’s dominance is clear in the traditional Conservative voting East of England where economic anxiety and immigration have overshadowed traditional party allegiances.
Notably, voters who expect their personal financial situation to worsen are more likely to support Reform UK and express distrust in existing political leaders. Meanwhile, those who remain optimistic about their finances are more likely to lean towards Labour or the Liberal Democrats.
Tim Miller, Managing Director of PLMR Genesis, the East of England team for PLMR, said: “Just one year into this Labour Government we are already seeing a seismic political shift amongst voters in the East of England and a clear disillusionment with the two major parties.
“This is the third time we have run this poll and the support for Reform has been steadily growing over the past twelve months. This is now a watershed moment as, for the first time, we are now seeing Reform would be able to form a majority government at the next election.
“The driving factors behind this change in public opinion are clear. Voters in the East, historically overlooked by successive governments, want to see their economic concerns addressed here in the region, NHS waiting lists going down and to feel heard on immigration, crime and political trust.
“Reform is clearly cutting through to voters and both Labour and the Conservatives will need to show how they will deliver in these key policy areas to avoid electoral wipeout. If they don’t, then we may see one of the most dramatic elections in British history in four years’ time.”

Why is this news? Next May there may well be an election in this town not next week and I suspect turnout to be even lower than 22%.
Music to my ears: Labour in third place and Chris Vince storming out of the count without giving an interview. Sorry, I forgot, Vince has already done that.
David if only you knew what I do
Is it a surprise, it feels like we exist to give our money to the state, while an increasing number of people live of the state either in state jobs or benefits. we are told how everything we enjoy from eating meat to flying is terrible for the environment it is really not there is no climate emergency (all we have done is virtue signal an export emissions while making ourselves poorer) . While power prices are ramped to the roof as the government cannot work our nuclear and in the mean time exploit our resources. Reform are not the answer they still think the state is a good thing, but they are a step in the right direction.
One only has to look at the post I will put on the Sherards House news article to see why the rise of Reform has occurred. For millions of people that Party gives hope that there will be change. Problem is, that Party have so little if any expereince of running local government, let alone running the country and clearly some of their policies are simply not affordable.
Adrienne. You obviously want to tell us what you know. So spill the beans
Lord save us.
Vote Reform and see what happens. Yes, they may say what you want to hear about reducing immigration and cutting waste and stopping "woke nonsense" as they call it. But look at their policies, if you can find any. Doesn't their plan to cut taxes for British billionaires living abroad show you what they are all about? And the fact that Farage has consistently voted against changes to employment laws that favour the employee should be another warning for working people. Farage has also spoken many times about wanting private healthcare so be prepared to start paying for hospital visits and and for GP appointments - that will be their aim eventually. Also, when they remove us from the European Court of Human Rights and have a majority Government, what is to stop them reducing our own personal freedoms? They will use the excuse of doing this in their effort to reduce immigration, but what they do to immigrants and refugees they can also do to us. Look at what is happening in the UK. Trump was all about free speech but now he is starting to look more and more dictatorial. Just look what happens to people who speak out against him and his policies, how they are shut down and, in some cases arrested. That will also happen here. And on a local level, Reform have so little experience in running local government that it is likely that many local authorities will be paralyzed and not be able to function. They will wade in, make swingeing cuts in local authorities spending with little concern for the consequences and as a result, the authority won't be able to function properly, or provide the services that we all rely on. For a good example of that, just look at what is happening at Kent County Council. These problems will then be magnified at national government level too. Reform have made many promises about things they will do when in Government, but have they explained how they will pay for them? No. And Farage has already admitted that he cannot explain how Reform plans to pay for their policies? That should raise some red flags. Farage was the most vocal supporter of Brexit and promised so much when we left the EU. I don't think anything that he promised then has actually come true. The only people to have really benefited from Brexit have been the super-rich, like Farage himself. That fact should be a massive warning sign in itself.
I had a "news" item pop up today. The Daily Express headline claimed to be telling us the conscription age if WW3 started.Total irrelevency just like this survey. How would Reform form a govt on 31% of the vote? Of course, what it does do is put a rocket up the backsides of the establishment which is no bad thing although popularist policies may well be. I imagine Nigel blaming it all on labour and the tories, well when he is actually in Parliament. I liked Trumps approach using a profanity towards the Israelis and Irans, perhaps what we do need.
A question: How many of the contributors to this website would vote for the Reform party?
Knee jerk criticism of the Reform tax policies for "non-doms" is misplaced. The idea as I understand it is to take a quarter of a million pounds off each of them that wants to come to this country. Here they will spend money on goods and services, employ people and pay excise duties and VAT which they don't do now. How that is not a benefit I cannot understand. There would be a substantial extra tax take, Reform believes, which they would distribute to the lowest 10 per cent of tax payers. Sounds good to me.
Reforms surge in popularity is a direct result of both the Tories and Labour clearly forgetting the first rule of politics "Elected by the people to Serve the people"
Pedro I totally agree with you. Elected by the ppl but to serve themselves or should i say help themselves.! I'LL BE VOTING FOR REFORM. LABOUR ARE FINISHED!!
The Labour luvvies in Harlow may do well to have a chat with their Stevenage colleagues in fending off a Reform challenge: https://www.thecomet.net/news/25271404.labour-fend-off-reform-challenge-bedwell-by-election/
Adam we are only worker bees. We have to shut up and do as we are told. With misinformation piled on top of us on a daily basis To gain any knowledge you have to be in the know in the first place. You believe what you are told if not.
Personally, until the British public learn to get together and fight for the rest of us.They will constantly be voting parties in and out.Its your fault You have to reform the government itself from a grassroots. That way you can slowly make changes but you have to learn to lobby effectively. That is why these volumes are so good .To thrash out and workshop ideas. You then come out with some really interesting ideas.
Ted I. am going to tell you only that you have the power to reform your own government poly. But there is some protections that are important to manage us so that we don't shoulder all the stress of the world. Otherwise,we would all have heart attacks on a daily basis. Now somethings these people get it wrong. Whether to give us cheaper goods or to try to manipulate countries elsewhere to give us there products. Did you not see the lord's debate.watch and listen carefully. I don't watch much TV,but for some reason I watched that. Now I am a laywomen with enough knowledge to predict what will happen before it doe.The definition of intelligence is being able to learn. So get your glasses on Ted. David Foreman rightly produces links. Have a read.
@Pedro. But the people are retarded!
Most pensioners and their families who support Reform are unaware of Reform's ruthless policies regarding our state pension. Nigel Farage favours abolishing our state pension system and replacing this with the ruthlessly means tested Australian 'Age Pension'. The OECD, The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, economic standards watchdog, classifies the Australian Age pension system as one of the cheapest and worst in the developed world. The Australian means test lumps together pensioners' assets and income and uses these as a means test for eligibility for a full or partial state pension or non-eligibility for state pension. Single and widowed pensioner asset limits for a full pensioner home owner: Aus $321,500 which is equivalent to £153,064. Those a little above these limits may qualify for a partial state pension. The amount of an Australian homeowner single person's Age Pension: Aus $29874 equivalent to £14,222m sterling. The Age Pension assets limits are adjusted three times a year based on movements in the consumer price index.
What is included in the Australian Age Pension Assets Test? Almost everything you own, it seems, including: cash in hand over Aus $500 (£238.05) ~ money in bank ~ household contents and personal effects, including jewellery and watches ~ collections such as coins and stamps ~ building society and credit union accounts ~ life insurance (surrender values) ~ loans ~ investments in shares ~ managed investments ~ bonds and debentures ~ vehicles (including cars, boats and caravans) ~ businesses ~ private companies and partnerships ~ property (other than the principal residence) ~ over 2 hectares of land, private trusts, gifts (totalling more than Aus $30,000 (£14282) in a rolling 5-year period), income streams (asset tested), superannuation funds in the accumulation phase for pensioners who are over pension age , bullion. ~ private companies and partnerships ~ property (other than the principal residence) ~ over 2 hectares of land/ garden, private trusts, gifts (totalling more than Aus $30,000 (£14282) in a rolling 5-year period), income streams (asset tested), superannuation funds in the accumulation phase for pensioners who are over pension age , bullion. The test does not state that it includes the value of dentures or gold fillings, however, these may be classed under personal effects. The value of homes which are a pensioner's sole residence are not included, however, Australian pensioners who are home owners are allocated much lower asset limits than pensioners who rent their homes, so in a sense, sole homes are means tested.
It's not only Reform and Nigel Farage that favours replacing UK's state pension system with the ruthlessly means tested, cheap Australian state pension system, Starmer, Reeves and their Labour government are also reported to be interested in replacing our state pension system with the Australian one.
Apologies for duplicating part of the second post above.
The Reform party just tell you what you want to hear. How are they going to pay for all they promise. It's Liz Truss MK2. They have no experience of running the country , they will bankrupt GB. No one party have been able to stop the dingies coming. Only being back the Rwanda deal will.stop it. Wake up Labour.
Adienne. I love reading your posts , but honestly I have no idea what you are talking about. Are you a fantasist , or is it my stupidity., properly the latter.
Did you watch the house of lords.Ted.stop trying to ridicule me and look for yourself.I am not sure if you are enjoying your constant humourless attacks. But it is very unbecoming.Unless of course you are trying to make yourself feel better.Either way either say something constructive or belt up
Ted, Adrienne makes some good points.
Thanks Colleen. The British public have got to be informed properly.Unfortunately,I haven't had the chance to see Reforms policy mandate. I promise I will try my best to find the time to. But pensioners are very vulnerable. And in this cut throat world may not be able to see the full picture. Voters are sheep.Who is going to win .We will go along with them. But I have twice had the misfortune of bumping into a reformist. Once the person was so racist Ito a member of public that I had to apologise for her behaviour and let the victim know that she didn't speak for everyone. But that was a few years ago.Althouhj I clocked that behaviour until a few weeks ago I would have let it slide. I was with a friend and came across a wonderful woman who said that she was going to take me out.(Not to dinner,) Well that ruined any chance of me having any respect for her party if that is the way you will be treated. I am quite a fair minded person. But a bit different.I tend to look into the world from the outside. I make my own decision from what intelligence I personally pick up. I won't go along with the crowd, until I am satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that it is a good decision Well if that makes Ted throw words a round willy nilly.Thats okay.He has his opinions and I have mine. I care about my Town and the state of it. Obviously, I don't want our pensioners to be scammed out of their monies. But we are all entitled to vote for whoever we decide to vote for. I have got alot more convincing before I vote again. It is not a tit for tat game,it is a serious decision that needs a real thought process. Our country fought for that right and it should honoured and respected. But I will always defend what is good for my town Colleen, until we have mandated that are set in stone. The best interests of our whole country are sorted out we cannot move forward. You get what you vote for. But that doesn't have to mean you go along with it.Thos is a new era.People can get real tie information on the internet. Regarding politicians. The first thing I do is ok at previous jobs.Ate there likely to be conflicts of interest. Then I go to companies house. Then I study there family trees. If I can't find a family tree that sends off alarm bells. Now I am going to bed..hugs
Given the demographics in Harlow that led to the town's pro Brexit vote, support for Reform is hardly surprising.
No matter what Farage & Co say, they don't have a track record in government to judge them by. However, we do from their previous incarnation of Ukip in the European Parliament. This included failure to attend meetings regularly and taking the biscuit by misusing EU funds. See article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-42669293
Colleen Morrison makes a very good point about pensions, something which I must do some research on. And Adrienne, don't let the critics put you off, you keep going.
Labour got in because the masses voted/stayed away from voting under the banner of anyone but the tories. Labour have already sealed their one term status so whose left? The greens are just not credible and the lib dems are just a cartoon party. What that leaves is a vote for none of the above in the shape of the reform party. You can see why Reform are gaining ground because the are not afraid to build up from the bottom up (peoples genuine concerns) rather than talk down to the bottom by labelling anyone who disagree's with them as "far right" The local elections in essex are due in May 2026, having been suspended in May 2025. I suspect the historical parties will try and scrap the 2026 local elections too.
Thanks David,I was wondering if I may have cri a line. That being said I am not sure but when I was younger then Australians health services were funded by their national lottery. It may be a good gesture if PAH could get a little funding from them. I have started learning poker at my local.I have been trying to hone my skills to toughen myself up.if Ted had not have been so rude.I would have told him to look into Trusses past employment. And look into BBC archives to find what she said to Putin and make his own conclusion as to the words she used effectively used .I think it was poo tin and some thing about Nuking him. When she didn't get her own way.I would love to hear the minutes of her conversation.the next thing we know his pipeline blew up. I think also she tried to pressureise her Majesty. Who was a very sick vulnerable old woman.. I know her bad health took a big tumble after that.I will try to contact his majesty to ask what his take on the bullying was. In my opinion she should be sacked. Her supieriiority complex beggars belief. To do that to an old lady as well is inexcusable. I give Ted a pass because he is an innocent man. And he is not very fair to castigate him for things that he doesn't know Myself,I can't blame the Canadian Government.I think they are embarrassed at the way Canadian BP hasi acted.. If you have read my previous posts you may now understand the bombshells labour have been landed with . An expensive war. That being said It is about time the armed forces were tooled up.With all that's going on in the world Britain may find itself having to defend it's citizens. I have said too much I know but There needs to be a bit of understanding of The Russian president s fury I am just an idiot but I have managed to put two and two together . What do you think?I have been followed by number plates been using the deaf alphabet to communicate and given advice in clandestine meets .And followed on holiday.I know someone else this has happened to so I know I am not nuts. But as you can see I am very vulnerable myself. You must know the feeling.lol. My sister's call me James Bond too.. I fear I may have lost some friends that are very dear to me But as my northern husband said It will all come out in the wash . Hugs Thanks for your support.Give your lovely wife my regards.xx
Plus I would like to apologise on behalf of the world to the Russian President and his people for the appalling way that he has been treated.I am able and happy to do it Properly face to face. I am a fair lady.I will not see a potential past very good friend to Britain being shafted like this. I know it's only words. That cannot excuse the behaviour and greed that I have witnessed.I am truly very grateful for all the help we were given from you in world war two. I do feel that in the future now we maybe friends once again.
Once again thanks for pep talk Davis and Colleen for supportng me it has given me the courage to tell my truth. And again to all my friends present and past for for putting up with me.I was very frightened. Now I know I Will have to put up with the backlash. But I feel a weight has been lifted from me. Thanks to fort the patience and kindness of the Editor. You are truly a remarkable person..My late husband would be pretty chuffed with you.Probably tell me off.Hey greed and bullying don't pay May this be a lesson to all the people out there we are not all emotionally bankrupt.hugs
And Coleen good for you.You go girl power. And men as well how un PC of me. X
By the way over a hundred labour MPs have voted against the disability reforms this does show that at least they are not sheep and will not toe the line that is in itself progress. It means that there is progress. Surely that is what we need to happen. There actions are from listening to the voice of their constituents. I appreciate and applaud them for their actions. That in itself should show the labour government that people will not tolerate this disgraceful behaviour. It unfair and shows a shift in the way out parliament is not going to put up with disrespectful behaviours. Let's hope they do the same for the recent statement that the pension age is going up again. Just because people are living longer. It does not mean you penalize them for that. I would like to see the pension age go back down.Believe me we can afford it. It was the most unfair thing that I have witnessed in this millennium. What right have they got to do that. Even though the waspi women put up a good fight. What was left out was how men were discriminated . Women pensionedf off at sixty and men at sixty five..In my opinion the pension age should have been brought down for men to have there pensions at sixty as well. A pure utter case of discrimination.Thst should be seriously looked into. Now I may have made myself really unpopular. But this really needs to be debated in parliament and the wrongs righted. Where has the money that was paid gone.Add the stealing which it is of the widows pension and we start to get a totally different picture now. Why on earth has no-one else seen this injustice. I think that this also needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency and a god wholly injustice righted. What is good for the goose is certainly good for the gander. A blatant disregard for the men as well. And definitely discrimination.hugs
Putin is a mass murderer , bombing schools and hospitals , people disappearing who don't agree with him. You don't apologise for me .
And without Russian help in ww2 you wouldn't be here
