ONE of Harlow’s greatest ever sports persons has announced her retirement from Netball.

Jo Harten, will play her final game for Giants in Sydney on Sunday

The 36-year-old announced her retirement after a career that has spanned more than 20 years and includes a multitude of accolades and accomplishments.

The 117-Test cap England great finishes her career as a Commonwealth Games gold medallist, an MBE for services to netball, a three-time Super Netball team of the year star and a four-time Giants MVP.

Jo began her Netball career with Tegate in Harlow. She respected her coaches so much, she had two of their names woven in her kit for an international in 2021.

The former St Mark’s pupils has never forgotten her home town. A few years ago, she visited Jerounds Primary and conducted a coaching clinic.

Jo told Fox News: “It’s been a true privilege to have played netball at the elite level, competing with some of the best female athletes in the world over the past 20 years,” Harten said.

Having started my journey back in the UK in 2006, I’m honoured to close out my career in my now home of Sydney at a club that is so close to my heart.

“Although my on-court days have come to a close, I look forward to exploring roles within the netball community moving forwards, championing the future generations that will take the sport to new heights.

“I will forever be indebted to the sport and all those that play a role in making our game great, thank you to all that took the time and effort to help me achieve a childhood dream.”
