Holy Cross celebrating cultures: A journey around the world at international week

Education: Primary / Sat 19th Jul 2025 at 06:22am

THIS week, our school was transformed into a global gateway as children embarked on an unforgettable journey around the world during our annual International Week. From exploring the wonders of the Netherlands to discovering the traditions of Japan, each classroom became a different country, rich in culture, history, language, and art.

Throughout the week, students immersed themselves in a range of hands-on activities—creating traditional crafts, tasting new foods, learning songs in different languages, and even dressing in clothing from around the globe. It was a celebration not only of global diversity but of the curiosity and enthusiasm of our young learners.

To round off this exciting week, we held our much-loved International Food Festival, a tradition that brings our school community together like no other. Parents generously shared delicious homemade dishes representing their countries and cultures. From spicy curries and savoury dumplings to rich stews and sweet treats, the array of flavours was truly spectacular. The marquee was filled with laughter, music, and the delicious aroma of food from every corner of the world.

The event highlighted the incredible diversity and unity within our school, and it served as a powerful reminder of the importance of learning about and celebrating different cultures. Thank you to all the families who contributed their time, talent, and recipes to make this event such a success.

International Week has once again proven to be a highlight of the school calendar—an inspiring celebration of global citizenship, community, and the joy of learning through connection.

This sounds brilliant!! How much better to recognize that we all share our one earth rather than the "we don't want them here" attitude that is so often heard.
