Recycled canopies provide much need shade at paddling pools

DO you remember these canopies in Market Square?

Following an initiative from Labour Leader Cllr James Griggs they have been saved from the scrap heap and repurposed at two of the towns paddling pools.

Three of the five canopies were fit for reuse and have been installed at Staple Tye splash park and Sumners Paddling Pool. The two that were beyond repair have been used for spare parts.

Cllr Griggs said ‘as the school holidays get under way I’m delighted that these canopies have been saved and put to good use providing shade at couple of our much loved paddling pools and splash parks. I’m grateful to the council officers who embraced the initiative and made it happen.

I’ll be asking for the purchase of similar canopies to be provided at the other pools and splash parks as soon as possible.’

These when running, are enjoyed by quite a few and for free. I do miss the old playschemes though, they were a god send for parents in the school holidays.
