Bell Hotel: Man pleads guilty to assaulting police officer

Crime / Mon 1st Sep 2025 at 04:14pm

A MAN who assaulted an officer during a protest in Epping on Friday night has been sentenced.

Jimmy Hillard was among a group of people who turned up outside The Bell Hotel on Friday (29 August).
Hillard assaulted two officers after refusing to move away from a cordon set up by officers at the scene at around 9.20pm.

He then pushed one officer causing them to fall to the ground and kicked another.

The 52 year-old, of Chequers Road, Loughton, was charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

He admitted the charge at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 1 September) and was given a suspended eight week jail sentence.

Assistant chief constable Stuart Hooper said: “Assaulting an officer can never be tolerated and can never be acceptable.

“On Friday, as we have done each and every week since the middle of July, we put plans in place to ensure people could exercise their democratic right protest peacefully and lawfully.

“The officers in Epping on Friday night engaged with those who attended throughout the evening, explaining what was happening, what orders had been put in place and why, and what this meant for them.

“Sadly, Jimmy Hillard took exception to this engagement and assaulted two of our officers.

“We will always work with people who want to protest peacefully and lawfully to ensure they can do this but we will also always take action against those who commit violence.”

Suspended? So if he shows up to protest in the next weeks he’ll be arrested ? Hows that going to teach him . Should be a jail term

Are any of these protesters actually from or live in Epping? The vast majority of the people that have been in court following incidents at the Bell Hotel are not from the town, according to the reports that you read. Makes me wonder if they are really been organised by other parites from outside the area...???

Mikel, Callum and two others were running Epping Says No Facebook group. All three are leading members of fascist Homeland Party. Barker has just recently split from Homeland. The Guardian article below explains: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/aug/23/members-of-far-right-party-organising-asylum-hotel-protests-across-uk-facebook-posts-show

I should have said Callum Barker in my earlier comment. Here is an article that explains fascist Homeland Party and their recent internal splits: https://hopenothate.org.uk/2025/08/13/homeland-largest-fascist-party-splits/

They majority of protesters are not from epping, but are racist thugs from fascist groups. The majority of epping residents are sick to death of the disruption they're are causing to the lives.
