Epping night walk raises over £28,000 for St Clare Hospice

Charity / Tue 7th Oct 2025 at 05:13am

ON Saturday 27th September, St Clare Hospice’s Night Walk was held in Epping for the first time, with supporters stepping out to back local hospice care.

The event drew around 300 walkers, who came together to take part in the 5-mile route. Fit School got the night underway with a fun warm-up session that boosted everyone’s spirits ahead of the walk.

After the starting countdown finished, walkers set off from Epping St John’s High School, lighting up the night in glowing gear – from flashing LEDs to glowsticks. The route looped back to the school, while passing the event hubs at Carpino Lounge and the George and Dragon where the crowd could stop for refreshment stops along the way.

The atmosphere on the night was full of community spirit, with people of all ages coming together to enjoy the experience side by side.

Rosie Brewer, Events Relationship Fundraiser, commented on the strong turnout of the event, saying: ‘It was truly heartwarming to see so many people come together in Epping to support St Clare Hospice during the Night Walk.

The energy, compassion, and generosity surrounding the event was nothing short of inspiring – and to have raised over £28,000 is just phenomenal. This amount could pay towards two weeks of night-sitting home visits by one of our Hospice at Home healthcare assistants. We’re so grateful to everyone who made this momentous evening so special!’

Councillor David Wixley, Mayor of Loughton, joined members of the local community in taking part in the Night Walk and shared his thoughts on the evening: ‘I was really impressed by how well-organised the walk was, and after learning that it costs £8.1 million a year to run St Clare Hospice, it’s great to hear the event was so successful in raising vital funds.’

Events like the Night Walk allow St Clare Hospice to continue to offer compassionate care to patients and their families during their most difficult time.
