Football: Harlow Town fined following racial abuse directed at match officials

HARLOW Town Football Clubs woes have continued after they received a fine following racial abuse targeted at a match official in January.
The match in question was the first one following the club going into administration.

A club spokesperson said: “The club wishes to address an important matter with transparency and responsibility.
Following our fixture against Colney Heath on Saturday 17th January 2026, we have since received an email from the FA confirming a fine issued in relation to racial abuse directed at the match official during that game.

“This behaviour is unacceptable and has no place at our club, in our community, or anywhere in football.
“It does not reflect the standards or values we expect from anyone associated with us.
“We are proud of the overwhelming majority of our supporters who follow the team with passion, respect, and integrity. Your backing is vital to the positive atmosphere our players thrive on. However, incidents like this remind us of the responsibility we all share to ensure our matches remain safe, inclusive, and welcoming environments for players, officials, and fellow fans.
“As a club, we remain committed to upholding strong standards of conduct and promoting the values that define who we are. We ask all supporters to stand with us in reinforcing these principles as we move forward together.
YH attended that match and included the following in our match report.
“It was a shame that the announcer had to issue a warning regarding “racist and abusive language”.
“We didn’t think the referee was great. Indeed, after a punch up in the second half, he took an eternity to make a decision and issue three yellow cards. But the hectoring of the officials and the encroachment onto a restricted marked area was unnecessary”

A club in tatters. Their reputation is taking a beating at the moment. Pulling out of the league, the effects that will have with local businesses, fans and sponsors, the mess that has become of the ownership and murky new owners who were involved with the old owners, the fans should be really concerned.
The club was in administration on 17th January so this is is the responsibility of the Administrators. I wonder if this puts them in breach of their professional standards requirements.
It shows what a cesspit this town is becoming. In May, this town will have a bunch of shiny new representatives of this cesspit culture and they will be the Reform Party.
