Reform-controlled Essex County Council unveil “cabinet of all the talents”

THE proposed appointments to Essex County Council’s new Cabinet have been set out by its Leader Elect, Councillor Peter Harris.

Councillor Harris will be formally nominated as Leader of the Council by the Reform UK group at the council’s Annual General Meeting on 28 May.

Councillor Sam Journet – Cabinet Member for Education, SEND and Skills

The new Cabinet and their portfolio roles, which are set to be formally approved at the meeting, are:

Councillor Peter Harris – Leader of the Council
Councillor Russell Quirk – Deputy Leader of the Council
Councillor Bo Davis – Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services
Councillor Paul Godfrey – Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care
Councillor Sue Truman – Cabinet Member for Children and Families
Councillor Sam Journet – Cabinet Member for Education, SEND and Skills
Councillor Mark Webster – Cabinet Member for Highways and Infrastructure
Councillor Christopher Benn – Cabinet Member for Waste and Recycling
Councillor Chris Hossack – Cabinet Member for Residents and Community Services
Councillor Jeff Bray – Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Heritage
The new portfolios reflect the priorities of the new administration.

Councillor Peter Harris, Leader of the Reform UK group and Leader Elect of Essex County Council said: “I am proud to announce a new top team whose talent and determination will help lead Essex County Council into an exciting and ambitious future.

“Now, our focus turns firmly to delivery. The people of Essex have given us an extremely strong mandate, and we are committed to working hard every day to deliver on that trust.”

Essex County Council Deputy Leaders will be confirmed in due course.

At the upcoming Annual General Meeting, Councillor Karen McIvor is set to be nominated as Chairman of Essex County Council. Councillor Pat Murray will be nominated as Vice-Chair.

Let's see how long they can work together before the infighting begins, but nice to see they can at least agree on who gets the top jobs.

So a lady Cllr Sue Truman is appointed Cabinet member for children and families. Surely this suggests stereotyping or is she the best man for the job?
