Did hundreds of fish die unnecessarily in Netteswell Pond?

Update: 1100 hrs

We went down to Netteswell Pond on Sunday morning. No sign of any dead fish, however, parts of the pond were frozen.

Harlow Council have told us that the fisheries contractor came down in the afternoon to take fish out and put them in storage tanks.

As we understand it, on Friday night, a pump was left on, this drained water and left fish exposed.

We spoke to people at the pond, who told us they saw “dozens of dead fish” in the pond.

HARLOW residents contacted Harlow Council this morning (Saturday) after seeing fish struggle in shallow water at Netteswell Pond.

The fish appeared to be flapping around in an area that had been drained as part of repair work at the popular beauty spot in the town.

A spokesperson for Harlow Council said: “We have spoken to our biodiversity officer. The water levels had been monitored over the last few days and the pumps that had been draining the pond had been switched off this morning.

The specialists fisheries contractor who were due to return on Monday but were asked to come back and put the larger fish in holding tanks.
