ON THURSDAY Harlow Council voted through the budget for the next financial year. Among the key decisions was the setting of the council tax rates.
A table of the breakdown of the rates is below.
70 of every £100 in Council Tax collected goes to Essex County Council, £15 of every £100 in Council Tax collected goes to Harlow Council. £11 of every £100 in Council Tax collected goes to Essex Police and £4 of every £100 of Council Tax collected goes to Essex Fire & Rescue Service.
This is disgraceful, how the Harlow Labour administration party seem to think that they can keep increasing the council Tax every year. The only reason they did not increase the council Tax last year was because the Tory Essex county council administration party increased it but I thatv2as not the case then, no doubt the Harlow Labour administration party would of done. Working familes are struggling enough financially, they don't need the Tory Essex county council administrating party and the Harlow Labour administration party ripping them off even more and putting more financial strain on them, especially when they are not receiving a decent service from either of them, service we pay from our council tax. The only reason that the two Tory and Labour party councillors in Harlow keep increasing the council Tax in Harlow is so that can all receive a big allowance every month, a allowance which 96% of all them do not deserve. They should all be paid on performance and attendance, if this was in place 96% of the Labour and Tory councillors, together will not deserve a penny. They are only in it for themselves and their own pockets not for the sake of the number one priority of Harlow, which is the people of Harlow. Love Harlow vote ukip.
Dear Dan, You are right to be angry about the increases in Council tax. A band C resident will see their annual tax increase by £5.93 per month, but in blaming Harlow's Labour administration your anger about this is misplaced. Only 40p per month of this increase is an increase by Harlow Council, the rest comes from the Tories in Essex, £3.61 per month from Tory Essex County Council and £1.92 per month from the Tory Essex Police and Crime Commissioner. Our 40p a month enables us to promise no cuts at all to services. The increases from the Tories come despite their plans to cut libraries across the town and the County and reduce spending in other vital areas.
Dear Dan Two other bits of information that you might find useful. 1 If the Tory Government gave back to Harlow the cumulative total of £14.6 million it has cut from the support grant it gives the Council, every resident could have two years without paying any Council tax at all, as our total Council tax receipts are £7.3 million a year. I'm sure you would agree with me that it would be great to give all residents a two year holiday from Council tax. 2 An independent panel accepted that the Councillor allowance equated in value to the minimum wage. I'm sure you wouldn't want to see anybody receive less than the equivalent to the minimum any employer would be required by law to pay. The allowance is still in line with amount you received while you were a Councillor.
You know how it works with the Marxists Dan. Pay more, get less, and don't forget their expenses increase ? Handily accusing you a being a grabber too. Why did they need an increase ? Did anybody in the chamber refuse it ?
If,If, If. That sums this lot up. My If's. If Blair hadn't gone with George Dubya, we wouldn't have spent billions invading Iraq. If Blair and Brown hadn't spent every penny in the treasury. Typical of the Marxists and it's been going on for years. They win an election, spend everything, lose the next election, and the Tories have to try and pick up the pieces. The Tories tighten the purse strings, and are accused of starving the nation. IF, the Marxists, hadn't pursued policies of profligacy, for year after year, when in power, how well off would we be ? Notice that I never mentioned P F I. Socialism breeds POVERTY, doesn't it, Laura Mac, or Ms A ? Perhaps if our councillors hadn't given themselves a nice increase in expenses, and used some of the 'massive' profits from HTS, we wouldn't have a hefty increase in our council tax ? Remember this when the elections come around folks.
