Letter to Editor: Why are thousands in Harlow ignoring the lockdown?
Sir,
HAVING to travel to Bush Fair this morning (Friday) 11am for medication, I notice traffic like a normal rush hour day along Southern Way.
When arriving at Bush Fair, it is very difficult to find a parking space in the car park.
When walking to the chemist, I see many standing or sitting around on benches, without shopping bags, chatting.
The “Stay at Home” message is obviously not getting to many in Harlow.
They will no doubt will be moaning when lockdown is extended further.
Regards

Take a look at the heliport that can be seen from the police station.....................
The alcoholics are still loitering in broad walk and the bus station but no sign of any police. They can’t be everywhere at once but this area has seen several serious incidents since the lockdown.
I would certainly support the fact that some folks are not adhering to social distancing measures. I have witnessed neighbours gathering outside their households chatting away within close proximity of each other. Visitors arriving at households AND going inside. I have also seen neighbours being picked up then dropped off! As for the town centre, this morning there were more people sitting around in the square than queuing (they didn't appear to be drunks either). Incredible. I wonder if all of these folk are clapping for the NHS on Thursdays? Frontline and key workers already have enough to do, without irresponsible people increasing the risk of Corona spreading. Post lock down promises to be a headache.
I went out yesterday to pickup my wife, NHS worker at PAH is was like any normal day so many cars on the road and people walking about. She walked home last week and there were 3 guys sitting on the bench by the heliport all drinking, 3 police officers came down from water gardens car park could clearly see them but just ignored them and walked the other way. I reported this on line to Essex police they never came back to me. If they haven't got enough police to do the job then bring in the army to trouble spots like Harlow.
Yes. Let's bring in the army and shoot any who disobey just as the rest of the world is starting to loosen up the measures. If there isn't significant number of the new cases...let the ppl be.
