COMPLETION of Harlow’s Edinburgh Way road improvements designed to support the town’s prosperity
Residents and businesses in Harlow will now start to see the benefit of the A414 Edinburgh Way road improvements between Cambridge Road and River Way Roundabouts.

Construction came to an end in September, enabling the temporary speed restrictions to be lifted.
Morgan Sindall began construction in 2018 on behalf of Essex Highways to dual the A414 between Cambridge Road and River Way Roundabouts as part of a £15 million investment into Harlow.
The Cambridge Road Roundabout was also upgraded and traffic signals at the East Road junction improved while maintaining a crossing point for pedestrians and cyclists.

These changes have been designed to manage congestion on this busy route, supporting future economic growth and jobs in the town.
Councillor Kevin Bentley, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, said: “I would like to express my gratitude for the patience shown by residents, businesses and commuters during the lengthy construction period.
“This has been an ambitious scheme which has been successfully completed despite the technical challenges of being a traffic sensitive site close to business premises and accesses.
“Works have required close liaison with many third parties, including utility providers throughout the scheme to support utility diversions and the protection of supplies.
“New innovative techniques have also been used during the build to install the country’s first large diameter, structural wall plastic pipe attenuation system directly beneath a live carriageway”
“The contractor is now beginning to demobilise their site and finalise any minor outstanding off-line works.”

And when they open junction 7a , on the M11 the traffic on this new road will be gridlocked at peak times. All due to the small roundabout at the end of Edinburgh way. You have 2 retail parks either end of the roundabout you wish to cross to continue your journey on the A414 , McDonald’s on 1 side and other popular outlets on the other, it’s going to be tough on hgv drivers .

I think the works are a great improvement although moving the problems on towards the station and mcdonalds roundabouts at end of working day time.
the removal of the double yellows in south road is welcome to stop the idiot speeders BUT i wish it had been done with more thought.
The large of section of yellows on the north side of South road removed has resulted in a large line of parked cars (20 or more)for the flats there but too near to the sharp corner by Bromley close.
Consequently people are queuing to wait for their turn to drive past the parked cars but all the while cars are coming around the corner unseen and causing lengthy delays. In some cases some serious road rage as once your passing the parked cars on your left there is no pull in to allow oncoming cars to pass and they just assume you are just being ignorant but you would have started your move before they came around the corner. Please can you look at and address this issue.

It looks well done.

The road construction is a good long term investment for Harlow town. I am not satisfied with where the road construction started from. I would have liked if the construction could have connected the round about at Harlow town train station all the way to where Ford garage round about, considering the amount of time spend on this project.

For such a short length of road it took an incredibly long time to construct.
Old gas mains that were not located on utilities map helped delay things.
I sincerely hope Junction 7A is not a repeat.

Now that the road works are completed (after a very long time )
What is going to happen to land that Morgan Sindall had all there plant equipment stored in , On two sides of the roundabout !
It has been cleared , and very muddy at the moment and very open !! The cars belonging to the contractors were parking on this land and this has churned it all up as well !
I do appreciate that this was a good store for them and mostly keep tidy BUT
Let’s just hope that the Gypsies do not think it all ready for them to “ settle” on as they have done in the past !!!!!
As I live very close to this land I am concerned what will happen to it !
Also are there plans to plant new trees ?

That is a relief, but it should have with a HUGE apology to the Harlow community, for what must be up there with the worst managed road infrastructure projects in the counties history.

2 years?? Surely that should read 4 or 5 years??

Is that why there was a queue from Edinburgh Way back to Mark Hall roundabout at 10:30 this morning?

I do hope they are snagging properly. The manhole/frames should be looked at closely, they make an distressing/clatter sound as you drive over them. They would appear not to be level with the road itself.

This upgrade took far to long. So few workers seen every day and the disruption impacted so many people. The road works on Gilden Way seem so much more organised. Well done GRAHAM

No way did this take 2 years. More 6 years
