Harlow Council leader looks back on a busy summer and pledges progress for the town

News / Mon 16th Sep 2024 at 07:57am

AT the beginning of a Harlow Council Cabinet meeting on Thursday night, the leader off the council, Dan Swords reflected on a busy summer for the council.

In many ways, the September meeting marks the beginning of the civic year. With no district elections until May 2026, he now has twenty month run to make significant inroads into regeneration.

Really Cllr Swords Your mentor Mr Halfon has taught you well. So regeneration of neighbourhoods: How is Potter Street getting along? I have asked you many times but still no response. That goes for my local councillors' who have either gone on a longer holiday or do not respond to those of us who are concerned for our communities. The county councillor likewise. So could you tell me how your quote, "The neighbourhood renewal plans will be subject to consultation with local residents" is going with particular reference to the Potter Street residents'? How did you consult them? I know you understand my passion for Potter Street because you told me so. In light of that can you tell me how progress is developing on Osler House, neighbourhood office and the car park. You know about them because you told me so. Any Answers? I doubt it!

What about all the promises you have made to the Taxi trade including the small matter of answering emails?

Dan mentioned the digital boost grant for Harlow. Epping Forest are not doing this so one up to Harlow. However, the reference to the David Lloyd centre puzzled me, I thought this was a private investment but Dan gave the impression it wasn't, especially with reference to Harlow staff being involved. Clarification please.
