Old Harlow residents’ anxiety after being given huge extra service charge bill

AN OLD Harlow councillor has met with a number of residents who are deeply concerned about an “extra service charge” they have been required to pay by their housing association.
The residents all live in Fitzwilliams Court, close to Churchgate Street.
Their housing assocation is Notting Hill Genesis
The bills are in excess of £800.00 and it is causing considerable stress among the residents, many of whom are retired.
We spoke to Old Harlow councillor Joel Charles about the service charge and his plan to help them.

They can form their own freehold company, and then appoint whatever management company they like, and be in control of service charges ect.

As seen elsewhere locally Housing Associations are too frequently run by greedy property investors and their only concern is maximizing profits. It's a consequence of government and local authorities cutting Council housing and handing it over to speculator friends in private businesses. Housing needs to be a right not a commodity. The uk allows foreign governments and speculators to wring out exorbitant profit, a practice that takes money out of the country, ruining housing, utility companies, strangles growth of the economy and impoverishs most working people. Labour are using the same playbook as the Tories and so making mistakes over housing and bringing in austerity v2. The hiking of these charges and the underlying assumptions that think this is an ok system illustrates the wider problems.

Don’t know what our steep prices go towards in honesty, maintenance?? What’s that ? I waited 18 weeks to have my shower pump changed!! Also my toilet was continually blocked when I moved here . Took 4 months roughly to believe my task I put in for the repairs/ new toilet! Still doesn’t work well! Money is tight, so much so iv had to go onto hardship with my EE mobile contract & like us all here in Fitzwilliam, sacrifice small pleasures, tv apps etc ! I’m wheelchair dependent , with the cost of this housing association, seemingly going up , when they like , Notting Hill genesis … wot a money grabbing landlord etc . Care ?? Ur having a laugh when this genesis , notinghill landlord and the head office management Etc .. it’s a profitable , lovely juicy wallet , business! Greedy .b.., S !
