Autumn Climate Summit takes place in Essex
Health / Sat 23rd Nov 2024 at 05:14pm
A CLIMATE summit took place earlier this month that focused on achieving net zero new homes in Essex.
Attendees and speakers came from across the industry. Experts from the council’s Climate and Planning Unit also led panels and discussions.

Discussions focussed on what is already being done in Essex, what is planned, and the challenges faced.
The council’s Climate Czar and Cabinet Member for Environment, Waste Reduction and Recycling, Councillor Peter Schwier led the summit.
He said: ” We know the demand for housing is as high as ever, but it is crucial that any new homes are built to an excellent healthy homes standard. This means they are warm in winter, cool in the summer and have low energy costs.
“We need to make sure that new homes built in Essex are made to last. They should also be made from high quality, efficient materials so that the the local environment isn’t affected.
“Net zero homes, when built correctly and to a high standard, are the healthy homes we need. These homes are the future for Essex.”
Key speakers and panellists at the summit included:
Hugh Ellis, Director of Policy at the Town and Country Planning Association
Ben Spencer, founder of house builders GS8, a local business that specialises in net zero homes.
Essex Climate Action Commissioner, Richard Davidson, from Balfour Beatty
Emma Osmundsen from London Borough of Ealing Council
A key theme from the summit was the benefits of new net zero carbon homes. These include:
good quality homes
improved health outcomes
low to no cost energy bills
economic growth opportunities
eradicating fuel poverty
reduced energy demand on the grid
As well as the summit, this month Councillor Schwier and members of the council’s Climate and Planning Unit attended a parliamentary reception at the House of Lords.
The reception explored how the planning system in England could better support local innovation to deliver net zero homes.

Meh who cares it is all a scam for more control, and enriching select people. Remember sea levels are rising but, they are not, hence why the elites all have sea front homes. All we have done with our climate action is move the emissions, at the impact of energy security, manufacturing base and national wealth. Still good work if you are one of the connected and can loot the tax payer like this.
Net zero has always been a scam. New build's achieve no net zero in their build. They achieve no net zero as soon as someone moves in. They achieve no net zero when a person commutes to and from it. Even the speaker knows this as he is carefull with his words. "Peter Schwier led the summit. He said: ” “Net zero homes, when built correctly and to a high standard, are the healthy homes we need. These homes are the future for Essex.”". Nowhere does he say, even if we build homes in a net zero fashion (there isn't one, never has been) he knows even if he managed that (they can't), as soon as someone moves in then that net zero cherry has been popped. Ed Milliband on the 5th of November wrote a collum in the Guardian and it he said "Today, the National Energy System Operator (Neso) has published its independent, expert analysis of the pathways to clean power. It is conclusive proof that clean power by 2030 is not only achievable but also desirable". Ed bless him, tries to convince us, the people, that NESO is an independent authority on climate change so should be listened too. What he doesn't tell you is Neso is a company created by Ed's Secretary State for Energy Security and Net Zero department and according to companies house, Ed Milliband, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, is the only person with significant control in the National Energy System Operator. What does this all mean? Ed is telling you an independent company is telling him what is achievable but Ed owns the company. Also this, Ed Milliband Is the very same Ed Milliband who was in the last labour government and was secretary of state for energy and climate change in 2008 - 2010 and he was the one telling everyone to buy diesels because they were better for the environment. The U.K. only emits around 1% of the planets emissions. How about we not bankrupt the U.K. by waiting for the others to catch up?
All new builds should have solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps. The Climate Catastrophe is happening and science demonstrates that. It's time for moe action and less talking.
AB -Do you know how much energy is used to make solar panels, their life time and disposal ? They are not green in the slightest like turbines, nuclear is the only way to go. As for heat pumps they do not work, and batteries are a store of energy not a source of it. The climate castrophe is fiction, science does not demonstrate it is happening as you are not allowed to question the dogma. The models are flawed, inconvenient elements are ignored. Is the climate changing sure it always has, it is mostly to do with the large ball of energy called the sun. As for Co2 it is the food of plants. Why did 450 people from the UK government fly to COP29 ? when it could have been a video conference the actions of the "elite" around climate are totally different to their virtue signalling. Climate change is communism and control wrapped up in easily consumable package for the NPCs. I bet you think covid was actually deadly.
Dame old deniers baseless conspiracy theory-led verbiage. Study the science my friend.
Is it AB ?. On my post the facts are easily checkable and show our government is lying to us, go to companies house. Look back through the history archive's and you'll see it was Milliband again who pushed diesel cars as environmentally friendly when he was last in government 2008-10. Look again at Adam's post on wind turbines. While the posts are quoted with a life span of 20-30 years, the fibre glass propellers rarely go past 5 years due to stress fractures. Do you know what they do with them AB? They go to landfill or are incinerated because both are cheaper than recycling. It's easy to say same old deniers but most agree climate change is part of the planets life cycle, it has done this 7 times before. What is obvious is the money being made by fear mongering. I'll give you an easy few questions. If the environment was so delicate, why did 50,000 candidates travel to cop 29 by plane train and automobile? If Antartica has such a delicate eco system, why do ten thousand scientists visit and live there every year and 122,072 tourists visited it 2023/24. When you give your £27.50 to travel through London, how does mayor Khan stop other countries emissions blowing over the U.K. Ed Milliband has been given £22 billion to carbon capture, do you know how he's doing it? We all should were possible make changes to work with nature, but do not confuse that with governments and big business making trillions in profit.
