Exhibition continues to Saturday 7 December. Open Monday – Saturday (Closed Sundays & Bank Holidays) Free Admission

THE Mainly Multiples exhibition by Alan Burgess is drawing enthusiastic responses from visitors to the Gibberd Gallery, including from by as far as Finland and Thailand. Comments in our Visitors Book include “Stunning art, just lovely,” and “Beautiful paintings, beautifully arranged” reflect the warm reception this show is receiving. The exhibition has become a gathering point for many who know Alan personally, from former students and local artists who attended his classes to colleagues from throughout his career.

At the Private View on Saturday 16 November many praised the thoughtful curation of the exhibition, done by Alan with help from his wife, Angela Godfrey, son Paul Burgess and by art technician Jim Montgomery. This event was also an opportunity to celebrate 20 years of the Gibberd Gallery.

To mark the opening in 2004 Lady Patricia Gibberd gifted Alan’s watercolour Arnison Crag Triptych to be part of the Frederick Gibberd Permanent Watercolour Collection. Please take a closer look when you next visit the Gallery and see or re see Alan’s exhibition.

At this time Angela Godfrey was a Trustee of Harlow Art Trust and Nick Bullions was working for Harlow Council as an Arts Officer. At the Private View both shared memories of the work that took place to get the gallery space in the new Civic Centre building. Nick paid tribute to Angela in his speech and all that he learnt from her as a new young officer. Nick is now a new Harlow Art Trust Trustee.

TREES - TREES - TREES in a remarkable variety - just as nature offers it! Alan has done an amazing job during many decades now, not to forget his intensive mammoth work for a commission of paintings of 50 trees from all over England at the change of the Millennium. Thank you, Alan, you have not only given us a new understanding of nature, but instilled in us a special joy and radiance. The present exhibition at the Gibberd Gallery is most beautifully displayed by Alan, Angela and Paul; it's a real pleasure to wander round between these well preserved and arranged master pieces. Thank you!
