Facebook and Instagram get rid of fact checkers

News / Wed 8th Jan 2025 at 07:25am

META is abandoning the use of independent fact checkers on Facebook and Instagram, replacing them with X-style “community notes” where commenting on the accuracy of posts is left to users.

In a video posted alongside a blog post, external by the company on Tuesday, chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said third-party moderators were “too politically biased” and it was “time to get back to our roots around free expression”.

YH is one of the founder members of press regulator Impress.

They have issued a statement that can be found below.

Whilst government's suck up to these media oligarchs nothing much will change. Starmer lacks the bottle or integrity to tackle the harms created by misinformation, but not surprising given how keen he was to goad the mainstream media in its campaign to destroy Jeremy Corbyn. The Morning Star editorial of January 5spells out how Starmer was keen on misinformation when it suited him: https://morningstaronline.co.uk/article/musk-inspired-media-war-starmer-time-left-response

Good to see censorship going the left really does not like its ideas being challenged, but one look at most of them shows you they are mentally ill
