Over the border: East Herts to work with other councils on future plans

EAST Hertfordshire District Council is working with Broxbourne Borough Council, North Hertfordshire District Council, Stevenage Borough Council, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council to plan for the longer term sustainable growth of North East and Central Hertfordshire.

The team has reached a key milestone and finalised a shared vision setting out the aspirations for the area up to 2050 based around 6 key themes.
The vision aims to inform cross-boundary planning and strategic growth options that address climate change, environment, infrastructure, housing, and employment. By working together, we are confident we will be in a stronger position to deliver and fund essential facilities that local people want to see, such as transport, schools, health and utilities like water and sewerage.
Each district and borough council will still be responsible for preparing their own local plan, but the preparation of a strategic plan will be important for setting the framework and shared priorities across North East and Central Hertfordshire, within which individual local plans can be prepared.
Vicky Glover Ward, Executive Member for Planning and Growth said: “By consulting on our shared vision, we gain a greater understanding of what is most important to residents, communities and stakeholders within our key towns and rural areas. This means we can prioritise what matters across NEC Herts as a whole.”
The vision is currently out for consultation and is available online now: https://www.eastherts.gov.uk/necvision . The consultation is running for 7 weeks from 13 December to the 31 January.
Readers will note that councils in Hertfordshire are taking a very different approach to providing long term plans for the county, not the one being taken by Essex County Council (ECC) which will see the abolition of ECC and District Councils. When local government was reorganised in 1974, it was acknowledged that there were some issues which are to big for District Councils to deal with, educations, social care and highways for example which is why today we have a so called two tier local government system. With the abolition of ECC, there will be no-where for a stategic plan to be prepared or anyone held accountable for.
More fantasy planning that we'll never see in fruition. Who do they think they're kidding.
Nicholas Taylor and HAP are spot on with their views.
