VE Day 80: Bells ring out across Harlow to mark special occasion
History / Fri 9th May 2025 at 06:48am
AT 6.30pm on Thursday May 8th, the bells rang out in a number of churches across the United Kingdom to markk the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The churches that rang out in Harlow included St Mary’s in Great Parndon, St Mary’s in Old Harlow and St Mary Magdalene in Potter Street.
Our cameras caught a few minutes of the bells as they rang out.
You may spot Harlow MP Chris Vince, who visited the church as part of his duties across the town on VE Day 80.
It was a wonderful and welcome sound; thank you to all you bell-ringers. You brought back childhood memories, of hearing church bells, and their range of messages, frequently.
