Celebrating Henry Moore’s 127th birthday
History / Wed 9th Jul 2025 at 08:57am
JOIN us at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens for a special celebration marking the birthday of world-renowned sculptor Henry Moore, born 127 years ago this July.
On Wednesday 30 July, families, art lovers, and curious minds of all ages are invited to enjoy an afternoon of creativity, cake, and sculpture. Drop in between 1–4pm for Flint, Pulp & Sculpt—a hands-on family workshop inspired by Moore’s bold forms and his deep connection to natural materials. Explore texture, shape, and scale as you create your own mixed-media mini masterpiece using paper pulp and flint stones to sculpt something truly unique to take home.

To mark the occasion, we’ll be serving 127 slices of birthday cake—one for every year since Moore’s birth. Enjoy a slice on us with every drink purchased at the Café.
Come and celebrate the life and legacy of one of Britain’s most influential artists in the beautiful Hertfordshire landscape he called home—the very place that inspired his work and where his monumental sculptures still stand today.
Henry Moore’s Birthday is part of our Summer of Sculpture, with creative activities every day for families. Make your mark on site by taking part in Summer Makers: A Family Figure, help us to create a giant collaborative sculpture, which will go on display in the grounds in September. Get green fingered in the gardens with Garden & Gather activities, including Lavender Cutting and Potato Printing. Shape your weekends with regular Saturday Soft Sculpt and Sunday Sculpt sessions, exploring sculpting methods and materials in a playful way.
