“A Transformational Moment for Harlow”: Chris Vince Welcomes UKHSA investment and move to Harlow
News / Thu 17th Jul 2025 at 10:01am
CHRIS Vince, Labour MP for Harlow, has today welcomed the Government’s announcement that the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) will be based in Harlow — a move he says will bring “transformational opportunities” to the town.

The decision to press ahead with the relocation and investment into the UKHSA campus in Harlow follows an intense period of campaigning from Chris Vince and represents one of the most significant public investment commitments in Harlow in a generation.
Chris Vince MP said:
“This is a transformational moment for Harlow. Securing the UKHSA here will bring hundreds of high-quality jobs, attract further investment, and put our town at the centre of the country’s future health security and science innovation.
“I have consistently made the case in Parliament and directly to ministers that this project must go ahead, not just for national health resilience, but for the huge benefits it brings to the people of Harlow. This is a vote of confidence in our town’s potential.
“Now we must ensure that Harlow residents, especially young people, are at the front of the queue for these new opportunities. That means working with local schools, Harlow College, and businesses to deliver the skills and infrastructure we need to support growth.”
Chris Vince added that this is just the beginning, and he will be pushing for further investment to ensure Harlow can benefit fully from the UKHSA and become a national hub for life sciences and innovation.
He also noted that this announcement is good news for Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH), as it strengthens the case for progressing the long-awaited plans for a new hospital — vital for ensuring world-class healthcare in line with Harlow’s growing national importance.
I have to say that Chris Vince obviously did pull his finger out and do some lobbying. Eell done Chris Vince, even if it pains me to eat some humble pie. Now let's have some details about the medtech campus which was originally part of the new PAH project at junction 7A. The announcement for funding of PAH, which starts building as late as 2034, failed to mention the medtech campus and it has been eerily quiet about it ever since.
I meant Well Done Chris Vince. There, I've said it twice.
I’ll be long retired by then, but I might be able to get myself a little part time cleaning job down there and then pop up to the new M&S in the town to get my bits.
Well done Chris.A bonus is the promo se of investment in PAH 1 Which is what I have been trying to highlight. David don't eat humble pie.We along with Chris have been integrally pushing for something to be done with the building. I am glad at last that it is going to be used. Perhaps we may fit a few little businesses around the area too. Never apologise for caring. But I am sure Chris will grateful for the sensible response. The staff at PAH1 WILL Be glad THAT HOPEFULLY THEIR JOBS WILL BE SECURE TOO.. Sounds like the job is done. As I can't see them backing out of a delivery once they have mentioned it. But please be careful with our little lives. As we have seen in the past what can happen when things go wrong.hugs.xx
Well played Chris - thanks for keeping on banging the drum for our town.
I think one step at a time with PAH 2.. Obviously, this is a costly business. Even though Chris has managed to broker a deal.We can expect the second hospital to be built. But I feel to start with that Pah 1 was going to be axed.So we have had a real time extra present. Whatever anyone says I have not really criticised Chris as I I have met him .He is quietly reserved ,but a determined person. Let's hope he can keep working in the background and the critics leave him alone. And stop calling him names. I truly think we all helped so a well deserved cheer for all Harlow contributions to this page And remember the story about the tortoise and the Hare. That's more like the Chris we know and love.x
And for Chris a message.lease look after the little people.Make sure we are not left behind. And can you bloody well pick up that card I wrote you it has got a thick layer of dust on it.lol.
I hope this isnt going to be another cruel animal testing laboratory for Harlow? We already have one in Harlow, please lets not have another one!! (Charles River) Can Mr Vince please provide assurance on this please? The portdown labs experiment on animals when they work on pre-treatment nerve agent pills for UK military & armed forces, also post treatment for exposure. Portdown also work on biological agents for the treatment of anthrax & the plague, Ebola,
Jennifer Steadman do you reject all medical treatment and medication? Because it has all been developed using animal trials prior to human testing and approval.
This is excellent news for Harlow . I remember when GSK opened , Harlow and local service providers gained a lot . A lot of jobs for local people. This may even encourage some local children still in education to study subjects like science medicine and health . But let’s hope we don’t see years of talk and planning discussions before it opens . The site has laid empty to long .
Adrienne. Please do your research. There is over 100 small.businesses within a few hundred yards of the site
I imagine Chris Vince will harp on about how he brought UKHSA to Harlow forever more. Still.it will stop him going on about being a teacher all the time
With all due respect I will believe it when I see it with both the HSa building and new PAH. We had the same high profile press release with our last MP, who was a total headline grabbing numpty. Please Chris, let's put actions in place, not just words
Ted Teachers educate and if you have an educated workforce then private companies want to locate in the town and bring well paying quality jobs with them. If you don’t have that educated workforce then it’s low paying low quality jobs in retail sheds and warehouses and like Harlow, a town becomes reliant upon the government of the day to give it a leg up with tax payer funded jobs and handouts for cultural quarters, bus stations and the like. I don’t want to live somewhere that is reliant upon handouts - I want to live here in a proud and prosperous town.
How many of the current Porton Down staff want to relocate??? And how long is it going to take to recruit and train staff to the levels required to replace Porton Down?? What is the bill for redundancy of the Porton Down site???Lastly how are you going to secure the site which is in the middle of a trading estate????
