Letter to Editor: Suggestions for public transport in Harlow

Your Say / Wed 20th Aug 2025 at 09:48am

Dear Sir/Madam

I would like to make some suggestions and about public transport for Harlow.

As they have been talking about for years about planning to expand the Central Line part of London Underground to Harlow Town. Now that would be good. And it would be good to plan to expand it to Harlow Shopping Centre in the future as well.

Especially inside the Harvey Centre. Especially close to the M11 and M25. To help people get out of their cars and onto public transport.

I think Harlow Town Railway Station should expand in the future. And I think they should be connected to London Underground, London Overground and/or TFL-Rail in the future as well. Not only Greater Anglia Railway.

I Think Greater Anglia Railway should expand from Harlow to Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich, Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Clacton on Sea in the future.

The bus service is very poor. Especially from Harlow to Waltham Cross via Nazeing, Brambles Green and Waltham Cross. I think they should run every 15 minutes during the day from 05:00 to 23:59.

I think there should be brand new trams in and around the Harlow area in the future.

I think there should be either a Brand New Train Service or a Brand New Super Loop Bus Service from Harlow to Gatwick Airport in the future.

I Think There Should be a Tram Stop at First Avenue or a NEW Underground Station under the Ground close to the Shops in the future.

I Think There Should be ether a Tram Service or Super Loop Bus Service from Harlow to Stansted Airport in the future as well.

Yours

Marc Ricketts

Years ago by 2020 there was supposed to be a direct train link from Harlow to the Chelmsford line - that never happened! Trams in the town would be good - could use the existing cycle track network to put these in

It wont happen

Time for Arriva to upgrade their fleet. Too many buses are up to 20 years old. Why have other towns got electric buses? Many of Arrivas' are clapped out especially routes 1,2 and 3.

A link to the Underground at Harlow would be great. Some decent modern buses and more frequent would be a plus. Maybe the new road layouts would be acceptable then

Extend the central line to Harlow would be great as it once served North Weald and Ongar. Look at the state of Epping now regarding parking if you do need to catch the underground; a car park that gets too full too quick and residents permit parking pretty much every else. Bus service Harlow/Epping is poor, hence the parking problems.

This lovely town has or had so much potential, from its inception. Wonderful tree lined streets, green spaces and access to countryside . Wide multi use lanes. avoiding the puck oil fumes. I went to Harlem today. Why waste good money on mutants and parasites. So few work and are good people. Let them eat cake

Underground station in Harlow is a good suggestion but let us not forget that minicabs earning depends highly on Epping underground station passengers that commute between Harlow and the station. If Harlow is fortunate enough to get a station I think it will be a very bad news for minicabs

Forgot the cabbies mate, everyday working people like myself who have bought in Harlow and travel back to London pay between 5-6k on train tickets per year. An underground would reduced that cost and grow the towns potential!
