THE all-weather action continues at Chelmsford Racecourse this weekend with a competitive seven-race card on Saturday evening.
The meeting gets underway at 5.40pm with an eight-runner apprentice handicap over the mile and a quarter trip, before coming to a close at 8.40pm as a field of ten tackle the seven furlong class six handicap.

Up first is a class six handicap for apprentice jockeys, held over the mile and two furlong distance (5.40). Night Tara showed bags of improvement on her handicap debut when scoring over course and distance 16 days ago and can defy a 2lb rise in the weights here to go in again for trainer Sir Mark Prescott in the opener. The James Owen-trained Backer Bilk isn’t taken lightly though, third behind his re-opposing rivals in that race but only by a neck so could be well placed to reverse those placings for his new yard.
Race two of the evening sees a field of five take on the fillies’ restricted novice stakes at 6.10 over the mile trip. Red Tsarina, trained by Ollie Sangster, looks the way to go here off the back of a promising debut second at Kempton 11 days ago and is sure to progress so is very hard to oppose.
A nursery contest for two-year-old’s is up next at 6.40 and six runners will head to the start for the seven furlong contest. The promising Houdini Miss looked to have something in hand when landing a seven-runner nursery ten days ago at Kempton and James Horton’s runner could follow up and defy a 5lb hike in the weights here. Whiskey Neat rates the main danger, a thrice-raced maiden but is up significantly in trip here which could suit.
A second nursery contrast of the card is next up at 7.10 and nine runners are set for the off. Preference heads the way of Dandy’s Rocket for the Mick Appleby team, bidding to make it 3-3 in nurseries and has the benefit of an inside draw so a hat-trick of wins is certainly not out of the question, while race five of the evening (7.40) can go the way of Pinjarra, a winner of a seven-runner contest here nine days ago and can go in again if he turns up in the same vein of form.
Eight runners will take on the mile and a five furlong handicap in class six, the penultimate contest on Saturday’s card in Essex (8.10). Inlet looks to be the way to go here, finishing second ion her last five starts including at Lingfield nine days ago when meeting trouble in the home straight so should be capable of winning this for the Rae Guest team.
Finally, the card comes to a close with a class six handicap over the seven furlong trip (8.40) and preference in the finale heads the way of the Julia and Shelley Brikett-trained Rusheen Boy, a good second at Lingfield in August and is back on the all-weather at Chelmsford after a short stint on turf , which included a fifth at Yarmouth last time out but is well-treated here on old form.
