Building Harlow’s Future: Progress gathering pace on the transformation of Terminus Street and the Bus Station
Harlow Council / Mon 29th Sep 2025 at 07:39am
HARLOW Council is proud to announce strong progress on the transformation of Terminus Street and the bus station — a flagship project that forms a vital part of the complete rebuilding of the town centre.
The regeneration works are now well underway, with demolition and enabling works complete and main construction activity in progress. Hoardings, scaffolding and site preparation have changed the face of Terminus Street, marking the start of a modern, sustainable and welcoming transport hub at the heart of Harlow.

When complete, the new interchange will feature:
Commenting on the progress, Councillor Dan Swords, Leader of Harlow Council, said:
“We are delivering the most ambitious regeneration programme of any district council in the country – reversing years of decline and finally giving our town centre the future it deserves. The change is no longer a vision, it’s happening now with work on the new bus station and Terminus Street moving at pace. This progress is evident for everyone to see and when complete, it truly will transform this area of the town centre acting as an attractive, modern gateway to the new town centre.
“But I know our residents want to see this transformation even faster – and they are right. They have waited long enough. That is why we are cutting through red tape, speeding up decision-making, cutting delays, and accelerating the rebuilding of our town centre. This is about more than bricks and mortar – it’s about restoring pride, opportunity, and belief in the heart of our town. This change in approach will deliver on one of our central missions to rebuild our town as we Build Harlow’s Future.”
Enabling works have also started on the Playhouse Quarter, with Market Square set to start in October – these are just some of the schemes being delivered to rebuild the whole town centre.
The 80-space cycle hub is a welcome feature. Let's hope I'm still alive to use it.
It's taken absolutely ages putting in cycle tracks and bus lanes in an attempt to benefit future new developments across the River Stort in Hertfordshire who will probably never use these new routes to shop here, preferring to use their Audi,Mercs and Range Rovers to get into town instead while paying rates to East Herts and not Harlow . The whole thing to me is a folly.
This is going to be the fourth transformation Harlow bus station ,I wonder if buses will still have to reverse off of the stops? A very dangerous concept, all of the other Harlow bus stations bar one has had a flow through design utilising both exits and entrances .This is clearly a provincial idea ! Also people using long distance coaches and buses will have to be dropped off at the bus station,I think it's.only fair that an area for drop off and.pick up is designated. Good luck HDC hope it all comes together.
The millions that this is costing should have been used to support the crumbling harlow hospital.
What an utter waste of money the car is king. No one wants to cycle even the communists in China aspire to a car
So space for 80 bikes which means we just make the low life kids that steal them more money for their drugs, bikes are stolen from adults and children on a daily basis at knife point and when is any of it mentioned on here. How about the bus station was fine and spend the money getting police on the street to get rid of the low life thieves
I would prefer bus route from katherines academy to its feeder secondary school sfg Or sfg to be built properly Or end of town where natwest is to be nicer
If only we had a decent bus service to go with it.
I assume whoever was making a mint housing vulnerable families alongside criminals and drug addicts in totally unsuitable accommodation without enough bathrooms in Terminus House is somehow making out like a bandit from this too.
This transport hub is all well and good but does anyone know why there are 200+ adverts here for nail fungus treatment. 😅
What exactly are we getting a bus or riding a bike to in this redevelopment, what are the attractions ???
