Councillor Kevin Bentley, Leader of Essex County Council, said: “I was deeply shocked by the horrific events at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester this morning (Thursday 2 October) on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.

“I am grateful to the police for their presence through additional patrols and resources around synagogues across Essex, so those worshiping can feel safe to do so.”
