Bike thefts at railway stations set to be ‘decriminalised’

THE British Transport Police (BTP) says it will not investigate bike thefts outside stations where the bicycle has been left for more than two hours reports the BBC.

It means most bike thefts will not be investigated and CCTV footage will not be looked at outside a two-hour timeframe.
Commuters leave thousands of cycles on racks outside stations every day, including in specially built bike parks with CCTV. Critics say the BTP policy means those facilities are not secure and theft has effectively been decriminalised.

So at a time when we are seeing massive disruption to our roads in order to build the "sustainable transport corridor" which is designed to get us walking and cycling more, we now cannot rely on our bikes being where we left them for our return journey. Need I say more?
Disgraceful abrogation of duty. Stealing a bicycle is breaking the law, which I thought was what police were meant to stop. Tony Wiseman correctly points out how increased bicycle use is part of the sustainable transport strategy. I'll give having my bicycle stolen a miss and use the car.
In the list of crimes the Transport Police will not investigate is "car thefts if the vehicle has been left for more than two hours."
I was going to buy a new bike from Halfords . Now I can get a much cheaper one at the town station. Sorry Halfords
The new bus station terminal in the town has claimed a bike store for 80 bikes, if stolen will police give up on those too by following BTP's lead?
Free cycle give-away sponsored by BTP.
This is not in the polices power the law of the land is the law of the land as they frequently use to defend when arresting people for silly comments on line. Or perhaps it is that they can pick and choose, which laws they enforce, neither of these engenders trust in the police.
Shame , why do the police not decriminalise all theft then they could spend more time in the canteen . It will give them more time to persecute motorists
Ted... I like your comment you made me laugh 😃.. have a good day...
