HARLOW Council today announced two public engagement sessions and a public engagement survey about the rebuilding of the bandstand in Harlow Town Park – a landmark project that forms a central part of the council’s commitment to Build Harlow’s Future and restore the cultural heart of the town.

The public engagement marks the third major step in the council’s eight-step plan to rebuild the bandstand following the demolition of the bandstand (step one) and the appointment of the architect (step two) which have both been completed over the past two weeks.
The council is working at pace to develop designs that honour the bandstand’s history and iconic appearance while delivering a modern, accessible and resilient structure capable of hosting major concerts, community events and larger-scale performances.
Residents, community groups, and local organisations are now invited to share their ideas and memories as part of the rebuilding process.
Announcing the engagement sessions, Cllr Dan Swords, Leader of Harlow Council, said: “The morning after the fire, I promised that we would rebuild the iconic bandstand ready for major events next summer – and we are delivering on that promise. The public engagement sessions mark another step in our eight-step plan to restoring this much-loved landmark. Please do come along to the drop-in sessions and share your memories and views because we are working right now on the plans for the new bandstand which will honour our heritage while providing a modern space for future generations to enjoy.
“This is about turning words into action. We are moving from recovery to renewal – rebuilding not just a bandstand, but a place that can once again host major concerts and performances.
“I hope many residents will attend these sessions, respond to our survey and also attend the ‘See you Soon’ event this Sunday to celebrate the bandstand’s past as we ready for its future.”
Two informal drop-in sessions are being held next week to share what the bandstand means to residents:
Wednesday 22 October, 5–7pm – The Playhouse
Thursday 23 October, 5–7pm – The Greyhound, Town Park
Alongside these conversations, an online survey will be available which will also be posted online for those who cannot attend.
To show that the spirit of music and community will never be lost in Harlow, a special “See You Soon” music event will take place on Sunday 19 October 2025 from 1pm-7pm outside the bandstand. The event will feature local bands and musicians, celebrating the town’s musical talent and bringing people together as we look ahead to the bandstand’s return. The event will be free to attend.
Residents can read more about the process for rebuilding the bandstand here.
The residents are invited to share their memories with who? - The appointed specialist architect? - The work experience kid? - A pinboard?--- Too much fluff and no substance - And you expect the elderly to hang around Playhouse Square or use The Greyhound car park after dark?? - Council Leader, do you know how many drug dealers use the Greyhound car park of an evening? - It's a lot more lively than your bus station.
.......can the council please release the name of the architecture firm that's been commissioned? I don't understand why they're being so cloak and dagger about this appointment.
Make it out of concrete and steel so it’s fire proof would be a good starting point
Make it from steel and concrete so it’s fireproof would be a good starting point.
Not sure why we need architects consultation, then another person blah blah. Rebuild it as it was with the slight change for the quality of the performing acts facilities. It's not looking to win a grand designs award. Just get on with it
