Harlow MP Chris Vince welcomes tough new measures to restore control of UK borders
News / Tue 18th Nov 2025 at 03:23pm
THE Government has announced the most hard-hitting reforms to the asylum system in a generation, designed to reduce the number of arrivals, close legal loopholes, and significantly increase removals of those who have no right to remain in the UK.

Since 2021, over 400,000 people have claimed asylum in the UK, more than double the figure from a decade earlier. A quarter of those are claiming taxpayer-funded benefits. Rising arrivals, combined with years of slow removals, have put mounting pressure on public services and on communities across the country.
Since taking office, the Government has already returned or removed almost 50,000 people, including more than 5,000 foreign criminals, and has halved the asylum backlog from its 2023 peak.
The Home Secretary has presented a set of radical new measures to combat illegal immigration that she says will end the chaos and finally fix the broken asylum system. Those measures include increasing removals by accelerating asylum decisions, expanding the list of safe return countries, and exploring third
party country returns. The plans also include measures to shut down legal abuse of courts, with legislation to tighten and clarify the use of ECHR Article 8 and stop last-minute appeals that frustrate removals. Proposals also include restricting access to taxpayer-funded benefits and tackling illegal work that draws people
into the UK, as well as holding uncooperative countries to account through new sanctions and visa measures if they don’t take back their own citizens.
Chris Vince, Labour MP for Harlow, said:
“I stood on a manifesto pledge that said we would restore order to the broken asylum system. I welcome the changes announced by the home secretary. This is once again Labour delivering on the promises we made at the election.”
A Government spokesperson said:
“Britain will always play its part in offering protection, but we will not tolerate abuse of our system. These reforms send a clear message that we are firm but fair and if you have no right to be here, you should not expect to stay. We are restoring order, strengthening our borders, and putting the interests of the British
public first.”
This yes man says the same for smashing the gangs for the 1 in 1 and now for the Denmark solution.I thought immigration was good for our country that's what labour have been telling us for 28 years.None of them have a clue.
I voted Labour, I got Conservatives in disguise. With this current discompassionate policy on asylum, maybe I even got Reform. Chris - you've lost my vote.
How much did your soul cost, Mr Vince? Hope it was worth it. You are the worst MP Harlow has had. Shame on you.
I'm really sickened by the racism of this Labour government - being cruel to people who have already suffered great hardship in a weak attempt to appeal to the far right (or worse - to scapegoat and stir up division). It definitely will not win Labour more votes. If people want the politics of Reform and Tommy Robinson they will vote for the fascists - not for their imitators. Racist cruelty will certainly alienate people on the left. Disgusting - and very sad that Harlow's MP is supporting this vile racist policy.
It's funny, the left say they are too right and the right saying they are too left
Copying reform .Chris Vince just like your labour party no idea definitely worst mp harlow had
Chris Vince....'His Master's Voice'. The man is just a Starmer puppet. A complete joke!!
Chris Vince is an opportunist which makes it difficult for him to realise that trying to copy Reform will bring him less votes. This is a change from Vince saying in a YourHarlow article December 12, 2023 that the Conservative's immigration policy was "chaotic and heartless". Given that Labour's immigration policies go a lot further than the Conservatives, then that must make Vince both a hypocrite and a heartless b*****d. See Vince's different tune at https://www.yourharlow.com/2023/12/12/labours-chris-vince-worried-about-immigration-then-whatever-you-do-dont-vote-conservative/
Harlow has a total non-entity for its MP. The man has absolutely no principles and is a slave to the Starmer line (the most unpopular Prime Minister ever). Vince is nothing more than a two-bit opportunist who is destined for the recycling bin come the next election.
This labour Government have abused the system and the people of Great Britain. They have lied and cheated. They are now taking on reforms stance on illegal. Immigration trying to win favours with the British public not because they care but because they are onto a hiding to nothing come election day! The only people in denial is this embarrassing government. Enjoy your perks and expenses while you can Chris vince. Labour are finished and haven't a hope in hell of winning the next election. Labour are finished!!!
Values and principles are important and this Labour party has just thrown their's in the bin. A government that only received 34% of the vote last year on a platform of Change will go down as the worst in Labour's history with a leader apparently the worst ever. MP Vince will vote for this change supported by the Conservatives and Reform. Attlee and Bevan will be turning in their graves.
@Berry anyone saying they're 'too left', when they're literally getting applauded by Reform, is a moron.
Small step that may be good for the country in the long, it’s not about being heartless, our governments first interest should be the look after their own first, not other peoples. As a younger voter this is good to see tax paid benefits potentially being less accessible to those who have never and often will never pay taxes for the benefit of others.
Our Mp is a medical miracle! A man who can stand, yet have no spine.
Anyone that voted Labour last election was warned that they will get Tory light. They were misinformed, they got Reform light. The whole PLP bar 1 or 2 are a complete joke, Chris Vince included. How he can stand there and defend everything that the government do, whilst keeping a straight face is beyond me. Well, Labour voters, I hope you're proud... Fascists.
Zack don't you worry labour won't do anything ,mass illegal and legal immigration will continue to go up and you can help us and help pay for it,we haven't got a lite reform party anyway far from it,they would actually do something about it
Nothing will happen it never does...
Neither Labour nor Chris Vince will ever act in the interests of the country or the British people. This is all hype and a distraction from the disastrous Budget. It is a smokescreen as was 'smashing the gangs'. Labour and the Left are determined to destroy our culture.
Chris (arse licker) Vince. Labour delivering on their promises. Smashing the gangs!! I must have been out when you done that. You are without doubt the worst MP that's ever represented Harlow. Please do us all a favour and resign
