THOUSANDS of children are taking part in My Future to boost career aspirations.

My Future gives children early exposure to the world of work. It has reached almost 27,000 pupils in 80 schools with 560,000 fun and interactive experiences.

Children from Sacred Heart School in Southend-on-Sea took part in Aspiration Week. They heard all about roles in defence and technology.

Pupils enjoyed the experiences and said: “You can achieve anything no matter who you are.” And: “It’s hard to do certain jobs but it is still possible! Follow your dreams!”

My Future is part of our Essex Year of Opportunity a £1.33 million campaign for 2025 and 2026. Through projects and partnerships with businesses, we are removing barriers into work and education for all ages by teaching essential skills.

Councillor Andrew Sheldon said: “The My Future programme opens doors, lifts aspirations and gives children the confidence to thrive.”

This term also marked the launch of a My Future hub in Harlow. The hub has been well received. One teacher called it “a very valuable lesson learning about different jobs!”

Pupils are also enthusiastic. One said: “I’ve been inspired to try something in theatre!”

My Future has received Skills Builder Impact Level 3. This award recognises the programme’s approach to developing essential skills and real-world impact.

All primary schools in Essex are being provided with careers’ support and advice. One of the highlights is a series of short films which showcases ‘Roxie’s Careers Journey’. Children can watch Roxie take on a series of jobs across the county.

Residents can subscribe to the Primary Careers newsletter to discover more.
