UK to offer military ‘gap year’ to boost recruitment
News / Sat 27th Dec 2025 at 11:53am
A “gap year” scheme to give school and college leavers a taste of the Army, Royal Navy or RAF without a long term commitment, is to be launched by the government reports the BBC.

The course is aimed at under-25s and is part of efforts to solve long-term recruitment and retention problems in the armed forces.
Applications to be part of the first of 150 recruits open in the spring, with plans for that number to grow to 1,000 young people a year. The programme will be paid but officials have yet to announce a salary.

The problem is no young kid wants to fight for this country. The schools are teaching the youth to hate this country. I blame Sadiq Khan and Kier Starmer. Labour said migrants have more rights than the British people.. why would you risk your life for that?
Steve, God help us all.
Steven, what a load of codswallop. Not a single thing you write is correct.
Steven, people like you make me not want to fight for my country.
When young people see how the government treat military veterans I'm not surprised they don't want to enlist. My father told me that during WW2 the American soldiers were better paid and better equipped. If you read Bravo Two Zero by Andy McNab, about the first Gulf War, that the Yanks had loads of kit that they could afford to lend some You will remember that in the second Gulf War the Blair led Labour government failed to provide sufficient body armour. Given how penny pinching and incompetent this Labour government is, I would not be surprised if they supplied uniforms that fell apart. Steer well clear young people.
Mr George everything I said is true.. LABOUR MP BRIDGET PHILLIPSON: “YES, ASYLUM SEEKERS’ RIGHTS COME FIRST” Reporter: "Your lawyers under your guidance have said, in terms, that the rights of asylum seekers are more important than the rights of local people in epping for us. Do you agree with what your lawyers said or don't you?" Labour MP: "Yes, of course we do."
I agree Steven I spent 13 years in the Royal signals and I wouldn't lift a finger to fight for this country given the same circumstances .A ramshackle government who favour illegal immigrants over the welfare of young woman ..never.
Surely any young person in the UK should be looking to emigrate if they want to succeed in life, success is frowned upon with this government and making money is deemed as unacceptable punishable by taxing you up to the eye balls.
