ST Clare Hospice’s Christmas Tree Collection has taken root as a valued community service! Once again, the collection was a huge success – raising thousands to support the charity’s specialist palliative care in 2026.

From 8th to 10th January, a dedicated team of volunteers gathered just under 1,500 trees from homes across the St Clare catchment area of West Essex and the borders of eastern Hertfordshire.‑of‑life care in 2026.
Ellie Gale, St Clare’s Relationship Fundraising Manager, praised the local community for their support of the service: ‘We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who booked a tree collection this January. Every donation plays a vital role your support has given our 2026 fundraising activities a fantastic start, helping to ensure that people living with life-limiting conditions continue to receive the specialist care, compassion and support they need.
We managed to raise over an incredible £26,500 and recycled 1,420 trees! This could help cover the cost of running our 24-Hour Advice Line for 53 days and nights, where nursing staff are on hand day and night to relieve worries and give expert advice.
We are also very grateful for our dedicated volunteers, whose time and hard work made the collections possible.’
The initiative was supported by a number of local waste management companies and corporate supporters. The hospice would like to thank the following:
