Reform UK candidate for Sumners and Kingsmoor claims knife crime in Harlow has risen by 200%

THE REFORM UK candidate for Sumners and Kingsmoor has claimed knife crime in Harlow has risen by 200% over last eight years.
The candidate is eighteen-year-old Jamie Winslow.

He made the statement on his social media account on Wednesday afternoon he met the much respected retired Detective Chief Inspector Colin Sutton.
Mr Sutton, who is now the Reform UK crime and policing advisor, is well know for his role in a number of high profile cases such as Levi Bellfield and Delroy Grant.
After the meeting, Mr Winslow said: “If I am elected on May 7 as the county councillor for Harlow South West I promise to make reducing crime a top priority.
“This isn’t just a political talking point, this was reality for me in London where I grew up where I personally witnessed drug crime and machete attacks right in front of me at a very young age on top of being the victim of theft multiple times.
“Crime is more than a statistic in Harlow, it’s how safe people feel and it often affects the way we live and the decisions we make; and with a 200% rise in knife crime in Harlow since 2018, it’s clear to many residents that change is needed to restore safety on our streets”.
Crime statistics are sometimes difficult to analyse. They say that statistics are like a bikini: what they show is fascinating, what they conceal is vital”
Last week, Harlow MP Chris Vince said that reported knife crime was down by 7%. But was that locally, nationally?
Essex Police told us that “knife-enabled” crime was down 17.%% in the last year.

We went to the Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner website for help.
When it comes to the possession of offensive weapons.
2018: 71 offences.
2025: 151 offences.
Of course, there is our own article from two years ago. But again, this is about possession of offensive weapons.
However, this covers a number of offensive weapons including knives.
On Friday, we saw Mr Winslow in Harlow Town Centre as he was waiting for Nigel Farage to appear.
We asked him where he got his figures from. He told us he would “tell us later”. We explained that we were just looking for a source but he again repeated that he would tell us later.
Last Monday, we made a request to interview both Mr Winslow as well as Church Langley and Potter Street candidate, Amanda Maison.
On Friday the chair of Harlow Reform told us he was working on it.
To be fair to Mr Winslow, he was the only Reform candidate standing in the District Council elections, who attended the event.
And he is also getting his message out there on social media. Plus we are sure meeting someone like Colin Sutton would have been an invaluable experience.
Finally, as we know, perhaps there is a statistic buried somewhere that may support his claim. If we find it, we will amend report accordingly.
A full list of candidates can be found below.
Reform talking about knife whilst Labour and the Greens talk about flags on lampposts.
It’s good to know that Reform actually care about the safety of the people. Whilst the other parties are more concerned about flags on lampposts and trying to make money out of the poor.
The real Harlow numbers tell a very different picture. Recent Essex Police data (most reliable local figure) 111 knife-enabled offences in Harlow (latest 12-month period) (essex.police.uk) This is actually DOWN 12% compared to pre-COVID (2019) (essex.police.uk) 👉 That directly contradicts the idea that things have simply been rising continuously. Another recent police update Knife crime in Harlow DOWN ~17.5% year-on-year (essex.police.uk) 👉 Again: recent trend = falling, not rising Earlier baseline used for “200%” claims is also completely wrong. The quoted 200% figure is wrong. The percentage increase for the numbers they claim are actually 115%.
Everybody wants all crime, including knife crime, to be reduced locally and nationally. But a lot of politicians (or would-be politicians), Reform ones especially, seem to like making up figures without providing the evidence to back where they got their information from. It then sounds like they are just plucking these figures from the air. When they do that; how can we trust them?
Trust Reform to run our town? I wouldn't trust them to run a bath!
Reform make wild statements then seek to find facts to substantiate them. Complete about face. As for facts and figures, they are no different from Labour: hopeless
When high profile figures, who have death threats against them, (thanks to people who say they preach 'hope not hate' but feel free to terrify anyone they disagree with) go walking in public, for security reasons they tell very few people their exact movements. And you wonder why there was no big turnout of the Reform UK Harlow Branch or its candidates? Would Nigel Farage invite hundreds of Reform members when its the general public he wants to see at a time and place kept secret until last minute? But not surprised somebody is looking for any reason to have a dig...
What is the source of the evidence for the figures and % of knife crime in Harlow set out be the Reform candidate and what types of knife crime are covered, e.g, possession, assault, wounding, etc? We need facts not unsubstantiated statements, which Reform seem to specialise in.
2024 YH knife crime in Harlow 200% increase in four years? Yes all, that is the source.
full research on the PFCC Essex website still shows that there has been a significant increase since 2018. Knife crime, along with weapon possession, has been increasing in Harlow since 2022 when for the first time incidents exceeded 100 in the year. From 101 incidents in 2022 it leapt 49.5% to 151 in 2023 and was again 151 in January 2026. If you compare the rate of incidents between 2017 and 2026 you see an increase of weapon possession of 132%. Even commentator Chris here acknowledges an overall increase of 115%. As with all stats, it just depends exactly what you are comparing. Whatever it is, it is too much and the people of Harlow want it to reduce. We can’t post a table here of the full figures, but Reform Harlow can supply them to anyone who wants them.
So reducing knife crime will be his top priority he says? Excellent. So is he going to sort out the social issues that create knife crime? You know, poverty, lack of support for youth, county line drug gangs? Because they're linked with the increase.. If the reform candidate can explain how he is going to fix all of this, stop people taking coke/smoking weed at the weekend (country line) and then we can watch knife crime go down then... kudos to him, do better an any politician for years. If he doesn't, it's just probably more nonsense that people spout out before elections without any real substance.
Katherines shops are like gangsters paradise. The elderly in the sheltered accommodation are too scared to go around those shops now. I went around there earlier today on a Sunday afternoon and there were blokes in a shady car with skeleton masks on and it wasn’t even Halloween. I was bought up on Katherines estate and I was never scared to go around the shop. Now I have to watch my back around there and as for Church End flats and the drug dealing going on there - where are the police? There was a gang of young blokes on the playground in Katherines field today, about fifteen of them on the swings - who would bring their child to the swings with a load of 15 year old boys loitering there? As for the lads on the motorbikes, who plough into people threatening them on their bikes, in my day you’d get a thick ear! As soon as I’ve got money, I’m leaving the estate I was born - on- Katherines, and moving to Newhall. There is are no shady gangster vibes in newhall.
When he called at my house, I asked him a number of questions regarding Reform's local policies. He was visibly uncomfortable and said he would check it out and that maybe it was in the leaflet. Was not impressed. Maybe I should have asked him: "Who ate all the pies?" I am sure he could answer that!! 🤣🤣
Martin, that is hilarious. They are not a serious proposition for Harlow. Dan Swords has all the votes in our house.
Martin, it is a pity that pie eating is not an Olympic event as Harlow/GB could have a real contender for Gold with the Reform candidate for Kingsmoor once he has finished negotiations with the boards of M&S and other major companies to invest and install in Harlow...... Yes. This is a joke. Reform Harlow are neither serious nor credible (although a Gold for pie eating could be on the cards!)
A question for the Reform candidate for Kingsmoor: So if you are elected, what's it to be: Steak & Kidney, Chicken & Mushroom or Mince & Onion? It is important that voters know your position on this. Are you considering a vegetarian option to be more inclusive, even vegan perhaps?
Sticking to facts is important. Unfortunately, Reform has no history of success and seems to just try and win people over with sensationalism. Labour were terrible when in power. Greens and Reform have no experience, whilst our local Conservatives have and continue to deliver on their election promises.
Get them in something needs sorting out fast!!
Reform in Harlow are clearly unprepared and can only hinder the progress being made.
Whoever can sort these issues out in Katherines estate , as mentioned above, gets my vote.
Statistics can show whatever you want them to when you pull them out of your backside
As the Reform candidate in Mark Hall, one day last week I was in the Stow, and the whole shopping centre stank of cannabis. I phoned the police and was stuck in a queue for over half an hour before I decided to join their ring back service. I never received a ring back. This in a priority police area!!!
So what you going to do about it Mr Gough?
Mr Gough, Harlow Council does not control the police, so as Mr George asks, what are your plans? Whinging is easy. We can all do that. Why don't you ask your local leader Scott, who doesn't live in Harlow to tell us what are Reform's concrete plans for Harlow. On other posts he has been very evasive. Reform don't come across as having any specific plans for Harlow. You don't inspire the confidence needed to bet on replacing Dan Swords and his team that have an impressive track record.
