PARENTS of trick or treaters are being reminded of some simple but important advice to ensure their children can enjoy Halloween safely.

Last year’s Halloween saw the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) receive more than 3,000 999 calls across the region, with more than 1,000 classed as immediately life-threatening.

Damon Wheddon, an area clinical lead at EEAST, said: “While we want everyone to enjoy the fun that goes with Halloween, we want them to go smoothly and safely. Simple tips for parents include examining all treated for choking hazards and tampering before eating, ensure costumes stay away from naked flames such as candles, and always make sure that children are accompanied by an adult when trick or treating.”

He added: “It’s also best you try and stay close to your home in streets you know, and use the green cross code when crossing roads.”
