Athletics; Murtagh leads the way at Essex half marathon champs

HARLOW Running Club had a successful day at the Essex Half Marathon Championships held at Pleshey near Chelmsford, picking up two Essex medals, a HRC record and five personal best times for the distance (PB). Steve Murtagh led the way in 7th place out of 403 finishers and 1st Vet 50 to win the gold medal in his age group in a fantastic 1hr 17min 14sec and this was also a HRC Vet 50 record. He was closely followed home by Jared Bethell 9th in an excellent 1hr 18min 34sec. John Tennant 111th and 2nd Vet 60 won the silver medal in his age group in 1hr 35min 15sec. Pasquale Pellecchia 160th finished in 1hr 40min 38sec, Sandra Rust 187th in a PB time of 1hr 43min 27sec and Janice Page 230th in 1hr 47min 57sec. Robin Lozeau 238th in 1hr 49min 35sec, Debbie Smith 273rd in 1hr 53min 29sec, Susan Maloney 345th in 2hrs 97min 21sec and Vicky Calver 365th in 2hrs 11min 31sec all finished in PB times.

Meanwhile at the Great Notley Parkrun 5K at Braintree Frank Pardoe finished in 7th place out of 66 finishers in a superb 20min 50sec in his debut at the distance and Alan Wellbelove was 52nd in 32min 30sec.

At the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Andy Kinney finished in 47th place out 86 finishers in 27min 43sec.
