Police investigation after attempted rape of Harlow pensioner by “homeless Romanian”

POLICE investigating the attempted rape of a woman in Harlow are appealing for a witness to contact them.

A 65-year-old woman from Harlow was approached by a man while walking in Southern Way near Paringdon Road at around 6am this morning, Sunday, September 28.

He asked her for a cigarette and continued to follow her towards Staple Tye. While she was with the man, another man walked past whom she spoke to. Detectives would like this person to contact them as soon as possible. He walked away in the direction of Staple Tye.

Once this man had left the woman was pushed in to bushes and attacked. The suspect is described as white, aged in his mid-20s, 5ft 2-3ins tall, of small to medium build, with short dark hair and was wearing a blue checked shirt and light trousers. He was very articulate and said he came from Romania and was homeless.

The woman is being supported by specially trained officers.
