A DIRECTOR of a homes letting agency who was accused of fraud following the collapse of the firm is to stand trial at the crown court in the new year

Sanjit Alangh, 26, of Tempest Mead, North Weald, has been ordered to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on January 5 for a plea and case management hearing.

He has been granted unconditional bail pending that hearing.

Alangh is accused of 17 offences in relation to 10 alleged victims.

He is charged with nine offences of being a trader and engaging in a commercial practice contrary to Unfair Trading Regulations between June 25, 2012 and June 10, 2013 and eight offences of fraud by abuse of position.

Alangh, who is said to have been a director of The Rent Team Limited based at West Gate, Harlow, is accused of being “knowingly or recklessly engaged in a commercial practice which contravened the requirements of professional diligence under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and which materially distorted or was likely to materially distort the economic behaviour of the average consumer with regard to a product.”

He is also accused of dishonestly abusing his position when he was expected to safeguard, or not to act against, the financial interests of clients.
