Harlow Council decline to reveal how much compensation paid out over housing repairs

Politics / Sun 26th Oct 2014 at 04:12pm

DESPITE being pressed, Harlow Council declined to tell a Harlow resident how much money had been paid in compensation to council tenants due to housing repairs.

At a meeting of the full council, Ms Jane Steer asked the portfolio holder, cllr Rod Truan: “How much has each contractor paid out in compensation to tenants since the modern homes work began?

Cllr Truan gave a detailed answer but did not reveal the actual amount.

Cllr Truan said: Tenants that have suffered a genuine loss have been recompensed at the expense of the Contractor undertaking the work.

Examples include one insurance claim (damage to carpet) loss of facilities and delay in completion of work (five) totalling £6,797.50.

Could this be because Cllr. Truan is totally out of his depth as a Portfolio Holder? Remember this is the man who said a House in Longbanks should be classified as two and a half bedrooms! He can't tell us what half a bedroom is either! Is it any wonder he's starting to get the nickname of Bungalow (Cos there's nothing going on upstairs!)

Typical UKIP when you have nothing to add you simple attack the person, this isn't what Harlow wants or needs.they need grown up debate not childish name calling.poor comment from mark Gough who should know better.

Seems as if we are in the same boat Mark, a headline not matching what was said. Headline says declines to give figure but the figure was given and is reported in the body of the report. As for the bedroom tax we have opposed this all the way. It is a pity that you do not share your colleagues (Cllrs Pryor and Crawfords) more constructive approach but resort to personal attacks

So what have you ACTUALLY done about the bedroom tax - NOTHING! What have you actually done to explain what you mean by half a bedroom - NOTHING! At Full Council Rod you get questions about failing to attend meetings and failing to listen to tennant representatives - meeting after meeting! I think it's fair to ask if you are out of your depth. There are no personal attacks here at all - I say you are starting to develop a nickname Rod. If that helps you raise your game - then that's constructive for the residents of Harlow. This is grown up debate Tony - it's asking why it's always Housing questions at Full Council, it asks is the Portfolio Holder earning the extra money taxpayers pay him. It's asking is there someone better for the job. As for it being typical UKIP - I seem to recall Labour attacking Simon Carter as a Conservative Resources Portfolio Holder, Mike Garnett as Chair of Planning. If the Portfolio Holder cannot stand up for their actions, or lack of them - it's good opposition politics to ask on behalf of the residents of this town are they doing a good enough job!
