Halfon DocHARLOW and the Village’s MP, Robert Halfon, is one of the MPs who have been followed by veteran TV film maker, Michael Cockerell, for his new 4-part documentary series Inside the Commons.

Robert was one of the MPs who was followed closely during the year-long filming and will feature heavily throughout the documentary. The film (particularly episode two) will focus on his campaign to scrap unfair hospital car parking fees and his appointment as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Inside the Commons gives viewer’s unique access to the House of Commons for the first time. Following everyone from MPs to doorkeepers, and clerks to clockmakers, Inside the Commons explores how the nation’s most important – yet largely unexamined – institution really works. We follow MPs from different shades of the political spectrum as they navigate the machinery of the House of Commons to fight their constituents’ battles. We experience the challenges faced by the staff of the House as they strive to keep the country’s most iconic and historic building functioning as a modern parliament. This is the heart or our democracy as never seen before.

Commenting on appearing in the documentary, Robert said: “It was amazing to take part in such a unique and special opportunity, which will bring Parliament into the homes of millions of viewers. Although I haven’t seen all of the episodes yet, I am hoping it will show what an MP does all day, explain how Parliament works and what goes on behind the scenes, as well as show some of the incredible traditions and buildings that helps make our Parliament the best in the world.”

Although in all of the episodes, Robert will mainly star in episode two, which will air on 10th February. The description for this episode reads:

“In this episode we meet two very different MPs: Robert Halfon, a campaigning Conservative and thorn in the side of the government, who receives an unexpected call from Downing Street. And Thomas Docherty, Labour’s deputy-shadow leader of the house, who goes to extraordinary lengths and makes unlikely alliances to guarantee time in the chamber for his party.”

The first episode of Inside the Commons will be broadcast on 3rd February 2015, at 9pm on BBC2. A trailer can be viewed here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02hx1s5
