A HOME is a remarkable place, rich in its own personal and social history. Have you thought about the people that use to live in your house – what did they do and how did they live? Or would you like to know what was on the land before your house was built?

Essex Record Office (ERO) is hosting an event at Harlow Museum that can help you learn all kinds of fascinating things about the place you call home.

The ERO has a vast archive of documents, maps, images and sound & video recordings that tells the story of nearly 1,000 years of Essex History. Their experts will be on hand at Harlow Museum on Tuesday 17 May to help you gather the information together and uncover the story of where you live.

Cllr John Spence, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Finance, with responsibility for Heritage, Culture and the Arts, said: “ERO may be based in Chelmsford but its records cover the whole of our county. Our experts love getting out and showcasing the incredible uses to which you can put the archives.

“We have such a strong connection with our houses, but rarely do we know much about what they were like before we moved in. I’d love to see more people using the Record Office not only to uncover their family history, but also the history of their home.”
