HARLOW Running Club made a creditable start to the first race of four of the Herts / Essex Mid Week Road Race League Division 2, hosted by Bishop’s Stortford RC over a hilly multi-terrain 10K course.

There was an excellent turnout from the club with a total of 59 runners, 38 men and 21 ladies.

Both mens and ladies teams finished 4th and overall HRC were 4th out of 11 teams, with teams from Welwyn Garden City, Royston and Bishop’s Stortford in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

The ladies vets team were an excellent 2nd place while the mens Vets were in 4th place.

The race was not timed as league placings were decided by finishing positions. First home for Harlow was Rob Lowe in 6th place out of 198 finishers with Dan Chapman 39th, Alex Smith 40th and Jamie Jephcott 51st. First lady was Sharon Wright in 13th place out of 120 finishers with Julia Gardiner 18th, Carinne Jay 18th, Faith Jackson-Lee 29th and Joanne Mills 104th and 3rd Female Vet 65.

Meanwhile at the Great Baddow 10 Mile race, on an undulating course at Chelmsford, Brendon MacLean finished in 56th place out of 649 finishers in an excellent personal best time for the distance (PB) of 1hr 07min 18sec. He was followed by Andy Bradley (144th in 1.14.29) and John Tennant (209th in 1.18.38).

At the Dukeries 30 Mile Ultra, a trail race through Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, Sandi Rust and Sean Flynn both finished in an exhausting 5hrs 55min.

At the Harlow parkrun 5K Jason Donovan finished in 5th place out of 137 finishers in 20min 44sec. He was followed home by Terry Ridge (11th in 21.42), John Bull (14th in 22.13), Spencer Brooks (20th in 23.15), Paul Dixon (24th in 23.40), Graham Saville (30th in 24.55), Jane Evans (44th in 27.31), Andy Smith (47th in 27.45 PB), Austin Nyamande (52nd in 27.58), Hossein Erfani (57th in 28.50 PB), Kerry Mavris (66th in 29.16) and Darren Coates (83rd in 32.00).

At the Gunpowder parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Daniel Jephcott finished in 5th place out of 150 finishers in 19min 02sec. He was followed by Jamie Jephcott (6th in 19.05) and Jamie Luck (28th in 22.34).

At the Hatfield Forest parkrun 5K Alan Broughton finished in 9th place out of 206 finishers in 19min 51sec. He was followed by Owen Haigh (26th in 21.35), David Page (81st in 25.15), Janice Page (99th in 26.12) and Jason Haigh (111th in 26.56).

At the Cambridge parkrun 5K Darren Tiley finished in 40th place out of 522 finishers in a PB time of 20min 03sec. He was followed by Martyn Coulter (69th in 21.06), Alan Wellbelove (124th in 23.32), Nicola Smith (125th in 23.37 PB), Robin Lozeau (130th in 23.41), Louise Cootes 205th in 25.27 PB) and Louise Kedge (215th in 25.42 PB).

At the Finsbury parkrun 5K Will Wall finished in 30th place out of 295 finishers in 21min 10sec.

At the Beckton parkrun in East London Paul Schroder finished in 9th place out of 61 finishers in 22min 53sec and Wendy Spring was 14th in 23min 53sec.
