Hospice celebrates “priceless” volunteers during national Volunteers’ Week
Aged from 13 to 90 years, and helping across all the charity’s departments, more than 550 dedicated volunteers support St Clare Hospice week in and week out. From 1 to 12 June the Hospice will be honouring their kind-hearted and committed supporters by celebrating national Volunteers’ Week.
From traditional roles such as helping in the Hospice’s eight shops, to newer positions such as the charity’s volunteer complementary therapists, the breadth of volunteering opportunities at the Hastingwood-based Hospice has grown continually over the years, with new roles introduced as the range of services it offers has expanded.
St Clare’s Voluntary Services Manager, Chris Crump, said: “We are privileged to have more than 550 volunteers at St Clare and although we appreciate every day the precious time they give, national Volunteers’ Week is entirely devoted to thanking our volunteers for their wonderful contribution. They are, quite simply, priceless!”
“Throughout the year, our dedicated volunteers give 100,000 hours of their time to support the Hospice, engaging in every aspect of our work and helping us to extend the support we are able to offer not only to our patients but to their relatives and loved ones too.”
Tanya Curry, Chief Executive of St Clare Hospice, said: “We are very lucky to be able to say that some of our volunteers have been with us from the very start when St Clare was founded in 1990, and it’s true to say that without this very special collaboration, we would not be able to sustain or develop the high level of care that St Clare has become renowned for over the past quarter of a century.”
“I would like to personally thank each and every one of our amazing volunteers for so kindly giving their time and talents to support our hospice. We simply couldn’t do it without them!”
St Clare Hospice is joining with hundreds of other charities across the country to mark Volunteers’ Week 2016 (1-12 June) and will be celebrating the contribution of their volunteers by hosting thank you parties and afternoon teas in their honour.
