The Phoenix Resource Centre turns rubbish into resources

Lifestyle / Tue 21st Jun 2016 pm30 01:38pm

THE Harvey Centre is home to The Phoenix Resource Centre, a valuable and inspirational resource in the community, benefiting both individuals and groups by turning waste into resources and equipment for re-use. The charity focusses on improving the environment by practicing and promoting recycling and the reduction of waste through the mass collection of clean, useable waste for re-use.

The majority of items available are new and unused and have been received from local businesses and waste recycling transfer centres for individuals, voluntary organisations, local schools and nurseries to use. Lifetime membership to The Phoenix Resource is only £10.00 and each token for a visit starts from as little as £15.00, which allows members to take and re-use a selection of items however they please.

Primary schools including Little Parndon Primary School in Harlow are regular users of the charity and Miss Mary Haywood, Co-educator explains, “The Phoenix Resource Centre is a brilliant resource for all of our Art and DT.” Miss Steph Galliers, Assistant Head and Reception Teacher at Little Pardon further supports this stating, “The centre is a fantastic resource for our ever changing role play areas.”

The Phoenix Centre also runs a number of community projects that aim to help people develop their skills for a career in film or music, including a training radio station, recording studio and green screen. The resources can be used for musicians of all ages to showcase their talent and for aspiring directors to create short films under the guidance of industry experts.

Bryan Young, Centre Manager at The Harvey Centre says, “The Harvey Centre is proud to be working in partnership with The Phoenix Centre, an inspirational charity which directly benefits the community. As well as recycling a multitude of products every year, The Phoenix Centre also helps individuals and young people wishing to pursue a career in the creative arts through their onsite radio station and studio. If you want to learn more about any of these projects or get involved, be sure to visit The Phoenix Centre soon.”

The Phoenix Resource Centre is located in Unit 7 on East Gate in the town centre. To find out more please visit: www.phoenix-resource-centre.org.uk
